Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Enterprise Architect with expertise in designing and implementing service-oriented architectures (SOA), IT service management (ITSM), and service delivery frameworks. You will become the subject matter expert on architecture for our Leavitt School of Health and School of Education and play a strategic role in aligning our Ed Tech services and architecture with business goals, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and innovation in service delivery across WGU. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain a cohesive enterprise architecture framework that supports WGU's objectives and enables our technology transformation.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Architecture Design:
Functions as subject matter expert within Enterprise Architecture.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive enterprise architecture framework that aligns with business goals and objectives.
Collaborates within and outside of Enterprise Architecture with stakeholders to translate business requirements into flexible, scalable, and resilient architectural designs.
Define and document current and future-state architectures, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
Technology Strategy:
Defines and documents current, iterative, and future-state architectures by recommending, implementing, and aligning with industry best practices and the University’s strategic objectives.
Collaborate with executive leadership and business stakeholders to develop strategies that support organizational growth and innovation.
Provide strategic guidance on the adoption of emerging technologies and trends.
Service Design and Optimization:
Develop enterprise-wide standards for service delivery, integration, and lifecycle management.
Design service-oriented architecture (SOA) solutions, microservices frameworks, and APIs that support reusable, scalable, and cost-effective service delivery.
Optimize services for performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Roadmap Development:
Create service architecture roadmaps, identifying opportunities for innovation and cost savings through service optimization.
Define the transition from legacy systems to modern service-based solutions, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Solution Development:
Work closely with project teams to design and oversee the implementation of scalable and secure Ed Tech solutions.
Ensure that solutions adhere to architectural standards and guidelines.
Leadership, Collaboration, and Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, developers, and infrastructure teams, to ensure alignment between business needs and technology solutions.
Develops and communicates technology strategy and complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Frequently provide mentorship, guidance, and training to team members and other employees across the organization.
Risk Management and Compliance:
Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with Ed Tech solutions and architectures.
Establish and enforce policies, standards, and best practices for service architectures.
Monitor the governance of service-based projects and guide teams in adhering to established architectural standards.
Technology Evaluation:
Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the enterprise architecture.
Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and platforms for building and managing IT services.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or relevant career experience.
10+ years of proven experience as an Enterprise Architect or in a similar role focused on microservices and API architecture
8+ years of development experience with Java or a combination of programming languages and using SQL.
Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture principles, frameworks, and methodologies, and DevOps and CI/CD.
Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud integrations.
Knowledge of service mesh and event-driven architecture.
Strong understanding of tools like tools like MuleSoft, Apache Camel, IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Apigee, Kong, AWS API Gateway, and Azure API Management.
Expertise in designing and optimizing systems for performance, reliability, and scalability to meet stringent SLAs and uptime requirements.
Exceptional communication, collaboration, design, and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate, present, and document complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of UML (Unified Modeling Language) or ArchiMate.
Experience with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Certification in cloud technologies and enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
