Senior Environment and Sustainability Advisor

We currently have an opportunity for an Environment & Sustainability Advisor to join our team. This role will report to Business Unit Environment and Sustainability Manager and based in Canberra or Enoggera/Brisbane, QLD.

 

You will continually support environmental management and identify improvement opportunities to provide the business with sustainable, industry leading solutions, which enhance the overall environment and sustainability performance of the business.

What you’ll bring

 

Tertiary Qualifications (Degree, Master) in Environmental Science / Engineering / Energy / Management, Sustainability or similar.Extensive relevant experience with a high level of Environmental legislative knowledge and frameworks in single state with broader national knowledge of other states.Ability to coach, lead and mentor others within the team.Strong knowledge in managing project environmental aspects and associated risks.Ability to use MS Excel and other applications to analyse, manipulate and communicate data.Sound level of sustainability knowledge for site level delivery.

The role has a broad remit, with key responsibilities outlined below:

Provide advice for environmental approvals and environmental risk reviews during the delivery of major projects (PU&NE) for Australian Defence Force (ADF - Base Estate Management Line of Business).Liaise with Australian Defence Force stakeholders (Environment and Sustainability Manager) and complete documentation required for environmental approvals (environmental clearance certificates, excavation permits, land and vegetation disturbance permit). Obtain and review documentation required for environmental approvals from subcontractors (construction environmental management plans, waste management plans, contaminated land management plans etc). Complete site inspections/internal audits on active projects to ensure compliance with environmental clearance certificate conditions. Work with the business to suitably adopt our Integrated management System to suit multiple sites. Be the point of contact for managing 3rd party ISO 14001 audits.Develop and co-ordinate training opportunities associated with significant/critical environmental risk.Advise on environmental incidents under regulatory attention as they relate to the role and location.Support the other lines of business within SICS on environment and sustainability as needed under the Downer Group E&S shared service model.Provide technical risk & opportunity advice at tender/bid phase of business opportunities.
