Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Brownstown, Michigan, Operations on a full-time basis.
The Role
Provide on-site environmental support for the Brownstown Battery Assembly Plant and Fuel Cell Systems Manufacturing, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and promoting sustainable practices.
Oversee environmental initiatives at other small non-manufacturing sites in the Flint, MI area, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility across all locations.
Engage in occasional travel to small non-manufacturing sites throughout the U.S. to support environmental efforts and share best practices
What You'll Do
Develop, maintain, and support robust and consistent environmental stewardship program strategies that align with GM’s mission to deliver sustainable solutions, positively impacting the communities where we live and work.
Bring experience in at least one of the key environmental programs, such as air permits and regulations, water permits and regulations, or waste regulations, to enhance our sustainability efforts.
Engage with Subject Matter Experts as needed to ensure continuous improvement and support the implementation of new programs and projects, fostering a collaborative environment.
Collaborate closely with site management, employees, Facility Managers, regulatory agencies, internal and external community leaders, legal staff, GM and external audit services, utility service providers, Project Planning teams at both sites and headquarters, as well as subject matter experts and chemical and resource management business partners.
Work alongside peers within the Sustainable Workplaces team to refine and enhance internal processes, promoting inclusivity and shared knowledge.
Additional Job DescriptionYour Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, or related sciences
3+ years of experience in environmental engineering or related science
Experience in Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, Wastewater Pretreatment Permitting and/or Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements or related media
Ability to travel locally
Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Environmental regulatory knowledge
Communicate proficiently to all levels of management with executive presence
