Senior Environmental Manager

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Senior Director - Environment, you will Manage, plan, coordinate, and direct aspects of the company’s activities in the Americas Commercial Operations concerning the environment and community. Provide technical expertise associated with environmental management, compliance, and engineering functions to assist Commercial Operations to maintain and/or enhance environmental compliance, sustainable development, adherence to all environmental regulations and attainment of business values and objectives. Provide expertise and guidance with community outreach and care. Other duties will include:

 

Participate in management of all environmental and community affairs in Dyno Nobel Americas Commercial Operations.

Participate in critical governance and management of Dyno Nobel Commercial Operations.  

Demonstrate shared responsibility for the vision and achievement of Dyno Nobel business objectives and strategies with emphasis on all financial and business planning functions.

Respond in the event of an environmental related incident, and/or investigation, and implement corrective action with urgency, efficiency, and sound judgment.

Manage a team of environmental professionals to meet the needs of a geographically dispersed business.

Ensure compliance with applicable HSE Performance Standards, together with legal and regulatory requirements.

Stay abreast of environmental regulations to assist compliance efforts and serve as a technical resource for the Commercial Operations sites. Communicate any regulatory changes impacting the company and work with all levels of site management to resolve existing or potential issues.

Advise company management on anticipated regulatory changes, and prepare compliance strategies that will require significant capital investment or increases in operating costs in order to meet corporate business goals.

Complete, review or commission needed permitting or document submissions. Work with legal counsel on resolution of non-compliance issues.

Review and advise environmental professionals on document submissions to state and federal agencies to maintain compliance status.

Provide technical advice and/or on-site support during federal or state inspections. Perform audits or site inspections to assist with compliance efforts or resolve potential non-compliance issues. Perform site visits to assist sites with environmental matters.

Manage Commercial Operations remediation projects either mandated by law or performed to abate company liabilities. Work with legal counsel to properly address regulatory obligations and/or minimize potential liabilities.

Provide technical advice to Strategic Engineering and/or Commercial Operations personnel on regulatory ramifications or environmental concerns associated with operational or chemical changes.

Perform environmental due diligence on potential acquisitions to protect company interests and minimize environmental liabilities. Provide technical advice and guidance on implementation of the Environmental Assessment Global Standard and maintain records associated with this activity.

Track site environmental performance and take note of identified trends to avoid potential penalties through proactive measures designed to prevent non-compliance events.

Work with regulatory authorities to minimize the cost of spill cleanup or remediation. Stay abreast of remediation advancements that provide cost effective solutions.

Participate on Management Incident Review of all HSE incidents which have occurred within DNA Commercial Operations and provide advice to prevent future incidents.

 

What We’re Looking For:

Education:

Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Environmental Science or related technical field. Master’s Degree strongly preferred.

Experience and Technical:

Minimum 10 years’ experience with environmental regulations relating to chemical manufacturing.  

Advanced knowledge of environmental regulations including: the United States Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, EPCRA and CERCLA.

Thorough knowledge and proven record of interfacing with regulatory agencies, including the United States EPA and State DEQs.

Experience managing environmental accruals and legacy environmental issues.

Breadth of experience with environmental, regulatory, and compliance matters with focus on environmental compliance in the fields of commercial operations.

Proven record in the area of community outreach.

Experience with progressively increasing professional record of senior leadership where corporate goals were established, communicated and accomplished through team efforts.

Proven ability to problem solve and make decisions of a moderate to high degree of complexity.

Required travel up to 40%.

Ability to organize, prioritize multiple tasks and handle multiple large projects simultaneously.
