Senior Environmental Planner / NEPA Specialist

As a result of our success and continued growth, we have a full-time position available for an experienced environmental planner / NEPA specialist at our Lansing, MI office. Responsibilities include: Preparing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other regulatory compliance documents, including Categorical Exclusion and Environmental Assessment documents Providing QA/QC on documents Managing airport planning and environmental projects Engaging in business development activities Project management experience for complex aviation planning and environmental studies Interacting with clients and regulatory agencies including presenting on project findings Travel and a valid driver’s license will be required. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited university in planning, civil engineering, environmental science, biology, ecology, or related field; AND at least six years of relevant environmental planning experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with any/all of the following: Significant experience leading the preparation of NEPA documents and permit applications Experience working with a variety of agencies on NEPA implementation which may include funding agencies, Department of Defense, land management agencies, Michigan Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, US Army Corp of Engineers, US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy Strong understanding of current NEPA regulations and be able to advise clients and internal staff on NEPA applicability, best practices, and required analyses and methodologies Experience leading teams and working in collaboration with engineers, archeologists, environmental scientists, and other specialists in developing NEPA documents Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, strong written and verbal communication skills Professional certification (e.g. AICP, CM, PE, wetland professional, etc.) Conducting research and developing narrative reports and graphics for aviation system planning, airport master planning, land use studies, economic impact analysis, terminal area plans, Part 150 noise compatibilities studies, aviation sustainability plans, and environmental assessments Capable of using CAD or GIS software to develop maps and graphics to support document development At Mead & Hunt we shape the future by putting people first.
