Your Opportunity
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic Senior Environmental Scientist with a keen interest in the natural sciences to join our Aviation Practice in our Portland, Maine Office. The chosen candidate will work with and assist our regionally recognized team of engineers, planners, and environmental scientists with development and delivery of airport master plans, vegetation management plans, federal, state, and local environmental permit applications and NEPA documentation. Your Key Responsibilities
Leading or Assisting with the coordination and management of environmental permitting, assessment, and/or compliance work related to various federal and state agency requirements as they pertain to a variety of aviation planning and development projects. Preparing NEPA documentation including Environmental Assessments and Categorical Exclusions for airport development and planning projects. Developing stormwater pollution prevention plans. Delineating and characterizing wetlands, including function and value assessments. Conducting natural community mapping, wildlife surveys and habitat assessments. Data collection (GPS-Trimble). Presenting proposed projects and project updates to state and federal transportation/ regulatory agencies and local planning boards and conservation commissions. Inspecting ongoing construction activities. Providing resident project oversight for projects impacting protect resources and/or surrounding areas. Collaborating with project team engineers and planners regarding resource identification and protection and associated impact mitigation.Your Capabilities and Credentials
Excellent communication and technical writing skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Experience using HydroCAD stormwater modeling software strongly preferred. Knowledge of New England flora and fauna and familiarity with state and federal listed species programs. Knowledge of state and federal permitting regulations and NEPA. Ability to work in the field in all weather conditions. Overnight travel is sometimes required. Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in an environmental (biology, ecology, natural resources, or related field) discipline. A Master’s degree is preferred. Demonstrated academic and professional experience with plant, soil, and wetland identification and characterization in the New England region. Minimum of fifteen years of related professional experience, preferably within aviation consulting. Strong technical writing skills are necessary for this position and a representative sample is required.
