Hybrid flexible are roles that can be performed remotely but require some level of onsite work/in-person interactions on a regular basis, require employees to live within a commutable distance and, since business needs vary by position and may change over time, managers will set expectations and flexibility regarding where and when work is performed.

Fully remote are roles that can be performed remotely, require employees to live in approved states and will have purpose-driven in-person interactions on occasion.

Job Summary

The Senior Environmental Specialist (SES) in Environmental Projects & Services will provide technical and regulatory direction, guidance, and implementation of environmental compliance programs for the Utility in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations. Responsible for assuring facility environmental compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, permits and corporate guidelines including air, waste, PCB’s, water, UST, SARA, SPCC management and environmental audit processes. Prepare procedures relating to compliance with environmental requirements. Develop and prepare reports to regulatory agencies. Independently interface with consultants and regulatory agency representatives to develop or discuss complex environmental issues and projects. Coordinate and guide environmental programs and compliance efforts. Identify and evaluate compliance trends and recommend corrective action or system improvements. Oversee activities of employees and contractors addressing the environmental impacts of our operations on customer properties. Serve as liaison between project and operating locations on environmental issues. Ensure day-to-day operations are conducted in an environmentally compliant manner. Monitor and insure adherence to these standards by Utility contractors during support of the electric division and gas district. Identify and address compliance gaps. Foster activities to establish utility-wide compliance programs, where appropriate. Manage environmental schedules and costs and support budget development. Generate and maintain performance metrics (milestones, KPI’s and budget) for the Utility, interfacing with senior management and regulators, and ensuring support from internal stakeholders is adequate to ensure success.

Job Responsibilities

•    Monitor/Control – Measure progress against project plans (scope, cost, schedule, performance, and safety); risk response; supplier contract management; adherence to regulations and corporate policies and procedures.
•    Lead Project Execution – Organizing, directing, and coordinating activities and resources to support the project portfolio.
•    Regulatory – Review Federal, State, and Local regulations to provide technical guidance in support of the project portfolio.
•    Timely and relevant communication with project stakeholders, including arrange and lead, or participate in routine ad-hoc meeting; ensure timely preparation and issuance of reports on status and progress.
•    Planning – Resource allocation for project portfolio support.
•    As an employee of PSE&G, you should be aware that during storm restoration and emergency spill response efforts, you might be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations. As a member of the Environmental Projects & Services group, you should be aware the off-hours emergency response work will be required. 

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry or Science
•    Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience in environmental compliance programs, environmental      engineering or consulting.
•    Minimum four (4) years’ experience in the Energy business, Utility operations, Environmental management, Consulting, Construction or related area. 
•    Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations and compliance related to Resource Conservation and Recovery (RCRA), Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), Underground Storage Tanks, hazardous material transportation, and remediation, etc.
•    Minimum 3 years’ experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost control. 
•    Must have or be able to obtain a valid 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with current 8-hour refresher training.
•    Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
Desired:
•    Four (4) years of contractor oversight.
•    Two (2) years in project management support role.
•    Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification and/or related OSHA construction safety training.
•    Advanced degree in environmental sciences or engineering.
•    CHMM, PMP PG or PE Certification.
