HDR has an opening for a Senior FERC Regulatory Specialist to join our Northern California team and be a part of our national hydropower practice that ENR ranks Number 2 in the Top 10 firms providing services to owners and operators of hydropower plants for 2024. HDR operates offices throughout California and our NorCal hydropower practice serves as a vital hub linking hydropower expertise and capabilities among our Resources and Water hydropower clients in NorCal, as well as leading and providing support for hydropower projects throughout California, the southwestern U.S. and nationwide. This position involves a leadership role on multiple FERC regulatory projects, with diverse clients and project teams.

In the role of Senior FERC Regulatory Specialist, we'll count on you to:

Responsible for all aspects of medium to large multidisciplinary FERC regulatory projects, involving a large project staffDirect and coordinate work of multidisciplinary teams throughout the project’s lifecycle (from development initiation to close-out)Prepare, plan and analyze/review technical studies, regulatory documents, and similar reports/documents related to FERC processes and associated regulatory frameworks (i.e., CEQA, NEPA, ESA)Produce and coordinate several projects concurrentlyEstablish and maintain client relations, and be involved with marketing, contractual, and technical meetingsPresent project work in client meetings, board meetings, agency/stakeholder meetings, and possibly at technical conferencesCoordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on scheduleTrack financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and scheduleAct as mentor for less-experienced FERC regulatory staff, technical staff, and Project ManagerPerform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Specific experience with Northern California utilities and irrigation districts with hydropower facilitiesKnowledge of Northern California watersheds and key resource issuesActive participant in hydropower industry associations or related professional organizationsMaster’s degree in Environmental Science or closely related fieldPMP certification

Bachelor's degree in related field10 years related experienceA minimum of 5 years of project management experienceFamiliar with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, project management softwareMust have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skillsAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $132,825 to $215,625 and depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
