Title: Senior Field Medical Director Lead - West Location: Remote About Us: Vera Therapeutics (Nasdaq: VERA), is a late clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for serious immunological diseases. Position Summary: Reporting to the Vice President, Medical Affairs, Field Medical Team Leader, the Senior Field Medical Director Lead - West, oversees and supports the activities of Field Medical Directors (FMDs) within a designated geographic region to achieve scientific and business objectives in Medical Affairs. This role focuses on strategic leadership, team development, and execution of medical strategies in alignment with the company's objectives. Additionally, the Senior Field Medical Director Lead - West will serve as a "player-coach," maintaining a small percentage of direct field coverage responsibilities. The position collaborates cross-functionally to ensure the seamless integration of medical affairs strategies across the organization. This is a remote position requiring proximity to a major airport for travel purposes. Responsibilities: * Leadership and Team Development * Recruit, onboard, and retain top talent: Build a high-performing FMD team reflecting a diverse and inclusive workforce. * Coach and mentor FMDs: Provide consistent feedback, field coaching, and support to enhance individual and team performance. Conduct annual performance reviews and succession planning. * Foster professional growth: Identify capability gaps and provide targeted development opportunities to ensure excellence and accountability across the team. * Cultivate a collaborative culture: Establish a productive work environment built on trust, respect, and alignment with company values.Player-Coach Responsibilities: Allocate time to direct field coverage, engaging with Key External Experts (KEEs) to ensure consistent communication of therapeutic and scientific information and to model effective field strategies for the FMD team. * Strategic Execution * Drive field medical strategy: Ensure the execution of regional goals, territory plans, and key initiatives in alignment with overarching therapeutic and business strategies. * Provide regional insights: Utilize analytics and field intelligence to refine strategies and optimize engagement with Key External Experts (KEEs), clinical investigators, and health system stakeholders. * Develop KEE mapping: Create and execute a comprehensive KEE mapping and engagement strategy to expand the company's reach across all tiers. * Support product lifecycle activities: Guide FMDs in disseminating disease-state education, presenting emerging clinical data, and addressing competitive challenges. * Cross-Functional Collaboration * Enhance cross-functional partnerships: Collaborate with Clinical Development, HEOR, Market Access, and Commercial teams to align field medical activities with business priorities. * Inform strategic planning: Facilitate field-level feedback to inform corporate objectives, refine tactics, and support strategic decision-making. * Engage with stakeholders: Partner with internal teams to develop and deliver value-based messaging to external stakeholders, including population health decision-makers. * Compliance and Governance * Ensure regulatory compliance: Maintain strict adherence to company policies, PhRMA Code, and FDA regulations governing scientific interactions with healthcare professionals. * Document interactions: Oversee the timely and accurate documentation of HCP engagements and unsolicited requests in required systems. * Monitor team adherence: Ensure FMDs comply with all corporate SOPs and regulatory guidelines. * Operational Excellence * Resource allocation: Strategically deploy regional resources to support medical objectives and optimize team impact. * Budget management: Monitor and maintain the regional medical affairs budget, ensuring efficient use of resources. * Performance metrics: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of field medical activities. * Training and onboarding: Lead the training of new hires, ensuring they meet the standards required for scientific and medical excellence. Qualifications: * Advanced degree required (PhD, PharmD, MD). * 12+ years of pharmaceutical field-based experience and/or industry-related leadership experience. * Nephrology expertise strongly preferred. * Proven success in managing and developing high-performing teams. * Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with integrated business software. * Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams and influence without authority. * Flexibility and adaptability to changing market dynamics and priorities. * Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time. * High sense of urgency and commitment to achieving objectives. For this role, the anticipated base pay range is $241,000 - $277,000. The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate's geography, qualifications, skills, and experience. At Vera, base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate will be eligible for an annual performance incentive bonus, new hire equity, and ongoing performance-based equity.
