The Senior Financial Analyst position is responsible for supporting the financial operations unit of the University’s central finance office. This position will perform professional accounting work of a complex nature including but not limited to ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in executing, analyzing, verifying, and reporting transactions of a fiscal nature; executing University, State and Federal policies, procedures, and restrictions; and ensuring General Ledger integrity through detailed and complex financial analysis. The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for monitoring records of past and present operations and may serve as a lead on special projects. The incumbent will be required to operate independently with a varying level of complexity and may be asked to provide additional support throughout the Finance organization. This role reports to the Manager of General Accounting on the Financial Reporting and Operations team. Hybrid or fully in-person options are available, with the requirement of at least 2 days in-the-office per week.
Responsibilities:
Performs analysis of financial transactions, ensuring adherence with Federal, State, and University standards and regulations and documents associated business processes.Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications.Analyzes financial reports and records, making recommendations on accounting related activities for the Financial Reporting and Operations group.Supports the creation, review, and documentation of financial accounting and operations policies and procedures.Assists in identifying opportunities for process optimization and efficiency enhancements within the finance function, implementing best practices.Assists with carrying out the month-end closing processes.Monitors and responds to inquiries, carrying out the required research to ensure accurate guidance is provided.Aids in coordination of accounting matters with other departments, locations, and divisions, including reconciliations and compliance related control measures when appropriate.Cross trains with the General and State accounting team.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degreeFive years of accounting or related financial experienceExperience in the higher education sector or non-profit organizations preferredProficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systemsStrong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory compliance.Preferred: CPA licensurePreferred Competencies:
