The Role will report directly to the CFO and will primarily be responsible for undertaking Financial Planning and Analysis, commercial support for business units & corporate transactions, engagements with Exco, shareholder and investor reporting and the creation and maintenance of key business models, M&A activities and analysis of investment decisions for new business. The person in the role will be expected to offer strategic input and guidance relating to strategic initiatives to multiple levels within the organization including the CFO, CEO and the Board of Directors and be a member of Exco.
Key Performance Areas:
Strategic Financial Planning:
Provide financial information and interpretation of implications for business performance and funding needs.
Coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of BI systems.
Provide analysis of investment decisions on new business considerations – Models, KPIs etc
Assess finance proposals and the financial status of new business opportunities and key projects.
Advise on investment strategies, sources of funds and the distribution of earnings.
Ensure the organisation complies with statutory legislation and corporate governance frameworks.
Drive cost savings – ensuring optimal financial efficacy.
Prepare and oversee compilation, updating and presentation of financial models.
Share key information and knowledge with the Board in strategic business planning discussions to assist in decision making.
Provide commercial input for all new business opportunities including acquisitions, mergers and contracts.
Strategically channel the group strategy into business plan.
Improved systems resulting in continuous strategic development
Strategic Financial Leadership:
Together with the CEO and CFO, formulate and ensure the understanding and alignment to the Company’s approved strategy
Act as a trusted business advisor to management and the board, supporting strategic and operational decision-making
Shareholder and Investor Management– engage in the detail with key shareholder representatives ahead of scheduled meetings to ensure alignment and understanding of plans, reports and models.
Engage with Banks on detail from models & plan and presentation for future facility amendments
Provide commercial support for new business units and corporate transactions
Take full responsibility for performance of all direct reports, motivating and managing them in relation to quality standards and agreed benchmarks and objectives, focusing on all aspects of sound people management
Develop, promote and direct the implementation of equal opportunities policies in all aspects of the company’s work.
Provide financial advice, leadership, and direction to the organisation
Communicate and maintain trust relationships with shareholders, business partners and relevant authorities
Enabling the achievement of EBITDA, cash, and growth plans
Provide insight into the commercial model with clarity on the drivers of performance to enable the business to deliver the strategy
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Deliver fast and accurate insight to support the evaluation of strategy and risks
Report the analysis of on financial results monthly and annually to EXCO and board of directors.
Development business analysis models to assess company, products and venture profitability
Compilation of appropriate investment models updated regularly to achieve successful and consistent investment monitoring
Provide at least a five-year view in terms of the business plan
Ongoing analysis of forecasts – tracking of KPIs and adjusted for tactical adjustments made during the year
Responsible providing a monthly report on actual vs planned spend for each business unit to ensure that the business unit can remediate if required
Responsible for analysing past trends and historical data and to use this information to advise management on potential areas of risk or opportunity
Adjustment of models where appropriate to align with shareholder requirements and provide required detail.
Reporting & analysis which contributes towards GP targets.
Reporting & analysis which contributes towards cost saving, EBITDA, Cash and CAPEX target by making suggestions to the CFO and business on relevant actions required because of the insights and working with business to monitor delivery of these actions.
Coordinate the strategic S&OP to align targets and inputs between merchandising, sales, operations, and finance.
Positively contribute to customer service with the relevant sales insights in terms of setting and achieving KPIs
Lead special projects related to FP&A
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Accurate, complete and timely delivery of management accounts monthly.
Accurate, complete and timely delivery of annual budget and quarterly forecast
Mergers and Acquisitions:
Measurement of the return on the investment against the commercial /business model presented and approved.
Undertake activities related to mergers and acquisitions including:
- Target company financial evaluations
- Due diligence assessments
- Term sheet drafting and negotiations
- Commercial contract negotiations
- Integration planning and execution
Minimum Requirements:
Charted Accountant CA (SA), CIMA, post graduate qualification will get preference.
10 years proven significant accounting experience and credibility.
Knowledge and working experience in the applications of IFRS
Corporate finance experience will be beneficial incl Mergers and Acquisitions
Proven leadership and management experience in dynamic, inclusive and changing environments.
Track record in the preparation and management of strategic plans, annual performance budgeting and advanced excel models at an advanced level
Business scenario modelling and building complex excel financial models – advanced level
Budgeting and forecasting principles at an advanced level
Attention to detail to deliver accurate information at an advanced level
Ability to multitask at an advanced level
