The Senior General Superintendent is responsible for managing all field operations on one or more large projects and is primarily on the job site daily. 

Responsibilities Directs and coordinates Gilbane’s trade contractors and their sub-contractors, to ensure high-quality work that meets the approved project scheduleSupervises and develops the project teamManages the project budget for general conditions and Next 150/Site ServicesDevelops, documents, and communicates the work plan regarding changes made in the fieldLeads site walks with the owner, architect/engineer, and financial institutions to show construction progressMaintains a thorough understanding of contract documents in order to coordinate trades, plan ahead, and proactively anticipate potential problemsObtains or verifies that subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposesFollows-up with the appropriate Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to schedule and complete necessary inspectionsActs as primary safety representative in the field, monitoring safety performance and verifying safety compliance with all tradesDevelops safety strategies and drives safety culture across all project personnelConducts maintenance and planning of “workarounds,” shutdowns and tie-insLeads contractor meetingsAccountable for review, completion, and accuracy of daily reportsCommunicates schedule status, updates, and changes to project team and trade contractorsCoordinates and manages jobsite logisticsDevelops the Quality in Construction (QIC) plan in partnership with the Operations Excellence team, oversees the plan and implements necessary changesResolves jurisdictional disputes with support of Business Unit (BU) leadershipEstablishes credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other project partners by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environmentManages Next 150/Site Services material and crew needsMentors and develops junior project team members on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumenActively engages or leads the Superintendent peer groupLeads technical trainings for continued educationParticipates in business development, project pursuits, and preconstruction needs, including writing scopes of work and participating in buyoutAdministers Time and Materials (T&M) trackingLeads or delegates stretch and flex, and daily huddleLeads and develops ground up construction with foundation experienceEngages in the community, growing and fostering relationships in the local marketResponsible for the career development and coaching of team membersFosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team membersInterprets and translates the organizational strategy, ensuring team understanding of their role in accomplishing strategic goalsMay be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management15+ years of experience on $50 million -$100+ million commercial/industrial construction project(s) or multiple projects in a lead superintendent roleOSHA 30-hour certifiedSTS-C CertificationFirst Aid, CPR, AED, Stop the Bleed TrainingOr equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Strong technical and communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needsAbility to participate in sales process, interviews, and presentations.Ability to lead in a team environmentProficient in Microsoft Office and other industry standard construction software toolsConstruction-document and drawing literate, with knowledge of all phases of constructionFamiliarity with Pull Planning ProcessExperience and proficiency in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost controlStrong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the project safety planAbility to create an environment where “safety first” is the culture and all trades people work with an incident and injury free attitudeMust be experienced supervising and leading a larger project teamKnowledge of labor relations
