Beacon Hill Financial is collaborating with a non-profit in Washington D.C. to bring a Senior General Ledger Accountant with non-profit experience to their team. The Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day general ledger accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the accounting team, assisting with month-end and year-end closings, preparing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The role will be based in our Washington, DC office with a hybrid work schedule-3 days in-office and 2 days remote each week.
Key Responsibilities:Oversee the preparation, posting, and maintenance of journal entries for monthly and quarterly close processes.
Ensure that all transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with GAAP.
Perform monthly account reconciliations, ensuring all discrepancies are identified and resolved.
Assist in preparing financial reports for management, including variance analysis and explanations.
Assist with the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements.
Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for auditors.
Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
Monitor and enforce compliance with federal and state regulations and funding restrictions relevant to the organization.
Provide analysis of financial performance and assist in strategic decision-making.
Work closely with other departments (programs, development, etc.) to provide financial insights and ensure proper allocation of funds.
Identify opportunities for process improvement in accounting functions and recommend enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff as needed.
