Senior GPS Technician
Overview Saiia Construction Company LLC is currently hiring for a Senior GPS Technician to join our team! The Senior GPS Technician is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading the workflow of the survey and GPS team to meet internal / external customer requirements for jobsite survey and topographical mapping. Responsibilities Leads survey and GPS team to produce drawings in support of civil engineering, mining, and paper plant land projects. Works with project management staff and engineers to obtain CAD files, approved plans, and control points for modeling use, and schedule jobsite visits. Operates GPS surveying tools, such as Trimble GPS base and rover, Trimble 3D Machine Control and eBee X drone, Parrot Anafi USA drone and DJI Mavic 3E to complete topographic mapping surveys. Uses various modeling software packages to enter required data to generate designs, construction drawings, renderings, report graphics, or other digital images in draft and final format showing profiles and cross-sections, indicating relation of topographical contours and elevations. Edits and synchronize data files then ensure jobsites receive data files by USB thumb drive or through cloud-based applications if applicable to upload into machine programs in a timely manner. Computes volume of excavations and fills and prepares grading plans used in earthwork operations. Troubleshoots and provides technical assistance to jobsite leadership on GPS equipment. Coordinates with project managers, superintendents, the equipment department, survey crews, vendors, and customers to schedule work for personnel and equipment. Assists in preparation of annual GPS budget. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of topographic surveys, construction surveys, and surveys of water sewer & storm drainage. Proficient with computer systems and MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with ERP systems. Vista Viewpoint preferred. Experience with Remote Time Entry. Proficient in AutoCAD LT and Civil 3D. Trimble Business Center, Trimble SCS 900 and Trimble Earthworks. Google Earth Pro, eMotion and AirMap App Competent in completing field-to-finish processing and mapping of survey data. Strong understanding of surveying mathematics, data adjustment, surface models, analyzing quality of data, and processing data. Must be detail oriented and can deal with problems involving several variables in non-standard situations. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal correspondence. Ability to prioritize tasks in accordance to urgency. Ability to work independently or within a team environment. Must be flexible to changes in work assignments daily as changes occur in project needs. Paper space/model space layout/scaling. Map/SID/image/aerial imagery insertion. Surfaces/3D Modeling. Point manipulation (import/export/rotation/translation). Familiar with Point Styles and Label Styles. Ability to use email, smart phone, tablet, or computer to manage company information and documents. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, organizes, and manages the work of the survey /GPS team to ensure the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational expectations and requirements. Provides guidance to team members and monitors their performance, discipline, and attendance on a regular basis. Responsible for professional development of department employees. Communicates and acts with a team-oriented mentality. Ensure positive morale and engagement of employees. Communicates and adheres to Company vision and values. Assist in employee recruitment, performance management, promotions, retention, and termination activities. EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: An associate degree from a technical school or community college in Surveying and / or Computer Aided Drafting software preferred. Minimum of ten (10) years of takeoff and modeling experience using Trimble Business Center. Minimum of ten (10) year experience using AutoCAD LT or Civil 3D in a civil construction environment. Must be able to read and interpret grading plans and specifications. Ten (10) years of grading field experience preferred. Minimum ten (10 years’ experience as a technician and/or AutoCAD technician or designer positions. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works outdoors in various types of weather and in office environment. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level in the field is loud to extremely loud. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Must have and maintain a valid state issued Driver’s License with driving record that meets Saiia’s risk management guidelines. FAA Part 107 UAS License required.
