The Office of Research at the Dell Medical School is looking for a Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist.

Purpose

The purpose of this position is to support the operations of the Dell Medical School Office of Research Sponsored Projects Team by providing Dell Medical School faculty members with comprehensive pre- and post-award assistance. 

Responsibilities

Pre-Award Activities: 

Oversee the review, submission and renewal of various types of sponsored projects from a variety of sponsors including NIH, private foundations, government, and industry.

Assist in the development grant budgets and lend expertise to refine budget justifications and various components of an application.

Review and format proposal documents to ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines and maximize the proposal’s impact.

Ability to navigate various proposal application processes & electronic proposal systems.

Advise and ensure adherence to all federal and university guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Work with administrative offices on award acceptance and project account set up including sub-awards.

Monitor the establishment new awards and sub-projects, with correct budgets and documentation.

Maintain and update information in the Dell Medical School database/electronic research administration system(s).  

Post-Award Activities: 

This position requires a firm understanding of grant finances. The candidate must have good facility & aptitude with excel and understand post-award grants management. 

Work with staff, investigators and department managers to review compensation reports and other required attestations.

Support re-budgeting, accounts reconciliations, salary allocations, and other ongoing fiscal activities. 

Provide guidance and expertise regarding financial oversight and compliance with all applicable regulations.  

Obtain sponsor approvals for no cost extensions, re-budgeting, carry over requests, and other prior approval requests. 

Collaborate with internal and external constituents on project account management, sub-contract management, and project closeout 

Support faculty with tracking of reports due dates and preparation of annual and final reports. 

Maintain and update information in the Dell Medical School database/electronic research administration system(s).  

Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and five years' experience in the management of sponsored projects accounts, including public, private, and industry funders. Demonstrated ability to work both as a team member and independently without continuous supervision. Demonstrated ability to work with overlapping projects and with sensitive and confidential information. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, and to work skillfully in a deadline drive, customer-service oriented office. Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, Adobe Professional, along with the ability to navigate various online portals and systems. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with UT Austin financial systems and/or Huron Research Suite software.  Experience providing grant support at an academic medical center.  Experience with NIH Clinical Trial proposals and human subjects research. 

Salary Range

$68,000+ depending on qualifications

May work around standard office conditions.

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
