Senior Hardware Engineer

You will join our Process Automation team based in Manchester within the Process Industries, Siemens. The team is a group of expert engineers responsible for producing high quality software solutions on time and within budget.
As a team we are based in Manchester - West Didsbury (free parking) but are guided by our forward-thinking hybrid working policy, to balancing working in the office 2-3 days a week and remotely,
The Senior Hardware Engineer will be an essential part of a highly skilled team responsible for designing the automation hardware on various projects. You will be responsible for producing the design for both `Green’ and `Brown’ field projects, including supporting documentation, and provide support to Project Managers and delivery teams to ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget. Your leadership and guidance will be essential to the success of the team. You will also be expected to mentor and work with Siemens apprentices to assist them in developing their skill and knowledge. You must have a proven track record in producing design documents including electrical/ mechanical drawing pack, System Architectures, Hardware Design Specifications, I/O schedules and Test documentation etc.

You will create impact by:
- Analyse and interpreting client preconstruction documentation and specifications, and sales proposals and ensure project designs meet the requirements. - To solve problems and develop design solutions, play a central role in crafting vital automation system hardware and produce required documentation to support your design. - Ensure design solutions consider innovation/value engineering for the best value, as well as safety, cost, and time constraints. - Provide technical support, as required to project delivery teams contributing to and supporting planning, procurement functions. - Participate in client meetings, co-ordinate with third party contractors and attendance of start-up, site visit, and design meetings, as required - Ensure that the design is submitted for acceptance by the in-line with client requirements and that “Approved for Construction” documentation is prepared and issued to the delivery team as per the accepted programme. - It is important to continuously develop your skills and stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, best practices, and innovations within the automation industry. - Ensure all design activities comply with the requirements of the company's Electronic Management Systems (eQMS) and procedures. Identify opportunities for improvement. - Provide guidance and advice clients and remote delivery teams at all stages. - Visit third party companies in undertake testing of you designs both prior to and including client testing - Availability to visit client site and undertake site acceptance testing and supporting project team in IO testing/commissioning
Your success is grounded in:
- Electrical engineering qualification - Knowledge of Electrical (E) Low Voltage (LV) design (BS 7671) and Control and Instrumentation (C&I) design (BS 6739) and the design of control panels (BS 60204) - Functional Safety of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic, safety-related systems (IEC 61508 and IEC 61511) - Knowledge of ATEX directives and Explosive atmospheres (IEC 60079) - Knowledge of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) (IEC 61000) - Knowledge of requirement for CE/UKCA Marking - Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages - Good working knowledge of AutoCAD - Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to diagnose problems and identify and recommend solutions. - Excellent communication skills - Attention to detail. - Ability to work on initiative, as part of a team and independently. - Ability to lead and motivate. - Ability to travel, plan, manage and prioritise own workload.
