The primary duties of the Senior Highway Drainage Engineer include leading the drainage engineering on large-scale highway and multi-modal projects for public transportation clients throughout the Southern California Region, assisting in the preparation of proposals for marketing pursuits, preparing scope and fees for drainage tasks, and supervising and mentoring younger engineers.
In the role of Senior Highway/Roads Engineer, we'll count on you to:Serve in the lead technical role in the detailed development of urban roadway design projectsPerform quality assurance checks on major transportation projects on interstate and state highway systemsServe as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexityAssume some project management duties and interact with clients as neededAssume some project management duties as needed and have a fair amount of client interactionSupervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as neededLeading the development of hydraulic and hydrologic modelingStormwater collection systems modeling and designCollect, assimilate, and present data in reports, memos and public forumsProduction of design calculations and technical reportsLead preparation of engineering plans and specifications for design of detention facilities, storm drains, flood control facilities, and other hydraulic structures.Perform other duties as neededWill work independently as well as lead groups of medium to large teams of professionals and technicians to deliver project deliverables dependent on project/task. Will be primarily involved in highway drainage design, plans production, drainage analysis and documentation, water quality BMP sizing, and stormwater management design permitting for Caltrans, Metro, OCTA, SBCTA, Municipal clients and agencies throughout Southern California, but there will be opportunities to lead the drainage design on railroad, aviation and maritime projects as well.

Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, or related is required.MSCEExperience with MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D storm drain system analysis preferredExcellent oral and written communication skillsAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a mustA minimum of 2 years of Caltrans PSE Drainage Experience is preferred20 years of experience in roadway drainage engineering projects is preferredExperience with leading a team of drainage engineers to deliver larger drainage projects is preferredExperience with supervising and mentoring younger engineers is preferredRequired QualificationsBachelor's degreeA minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering designProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseDemonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teamsProject management skills desirableExperience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plansMust have coordinated survey, grading, drainage and utilities and layout of various site items is a plusAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
