Senior Human Resources Generalist

Job Overview

The Senior HR Generalist provides comprehensive HR services to salaried and hourly employees, including some unionized staff, at manufacturing and service facilities in North America. This role serves as the first point of contact for employee relations issues within assigned client groups and is responsible for compliance, recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, and organizational planning. Additionally, the Senior HR Generalist leads community and college relations initiatives, supports personal development projects, and collaborates with internal and external client groups to optimize effectiveness. This position may also provide guidance to HR administrative staff as needed.

Key Job Responsibilities

Employee/Labor Relations

Act as the primary point of contact for employee and labor relations within assigned client groups, addressing issues proactively.

Create job requisitions and manage HR action records.

Oversee staffing needs, including coordinating with recruitment staff and generating offer, rejection, and promotion letters.

Conduct legally sound investigations and coach/train others in these processes.

Manage reduction in force initiatives, ensuring legal compliance.

Develop and implement HR policies while maintaining awareness of legal implications.

Provide guidance to managers on morale, fairness, and employee coaching, including addressing workplace violence and misconduct issues.

Recruiting

Develop recruiting strategies, coordinate external recruiters, and participate in college hiring events.

Organize internet-based recruiting initiatives and assess staffing reports.

Training & Development

Facilitate training programs and lead organizational change or quality improvement initiatives.

Provide coaching on succession planning and feedback programs.

Compensation and Benefits

Provide support on general benefits inquiries and compensation systems, ensuring consistency and fairness.

Coach managers on offer levels while maintaining internal equity and compliance.

Strategic Partnering

Collaborate with department management to assess needs, develop strategies, and create succession plans.

Act as a business partner, participating in department meetings and contributing to organizational goals.

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or a related field.

At least 3 years of HR generalist experience in a manufacturing environment.

Hands-on experience in employee relations.

Proven ability to maintain high ethical standards and confidentiality.

Strong interpersonal skills and success as an approachable, influential advisor at all organizational levels.

Effective communication skills (oral and written) and proficiency in Microsoft Office; SAP experience is a plus.

Demonstrated ability to carry projects through to completion as a self-starter.

Working knowledge of all functional HR areas, including union-free operations.

Preferred Skills

Experience in OFCC compliance and AAP development.

Knowledge of labor relations, training & development, compensation, and benefits administration.

Exposure to strategic HR partnering with business operations.

Familiarity with variable pay, market-based pay, and point factor systems (Hay system experience is a plus).

Advanced facilitation skills for training programs and organizational development initiatives.
