Senior HVAC Mechanical Engineer (DOE Project)

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for a, Senior HVAC Engineer, for a 12-month contract assignment supporting the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant near Richland, WA. This onsite role offers a W2 hourly base rate with time and a half for overtime, per diem, and mobilization / demobilization. Our client is targeting $85.00/hour for this role.

Project Overview:
We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. The Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant is located 22 miles northwest of Richland, WA.
This is position requires full time presence in the Richland, WA project office and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. The project entails working as part of the HVAC team designing the areas of the HVAC systems and or support utilities used to support the treatment and vitrification processes.
Responsibilities: Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, design criteria, and codes and standards in making adaptations and modifications in the HVAC design. Participates in the design, development, and modification of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), codes, and standards. Prepares engineering design documentation including technical reports, studies, calculations, Ventilation and Instrumentation diagrams, equipment data sheets, conceptual studies, and design proposals. Prepares engineering procurement documentation including equipment specifications, material requisitions, and technical evaluations of vendor procurement proposals. Coordinates HVAC engineering efforts in various assigned areas with internal specialty groups, other engineering disciplines, Construction, and Operations and Maintenance. Informing our client during the design progression and quickly addressing our client’s question is essential. Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interacts with other project functions, our client, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory and industry codes and standards. Aids project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution. Provides checking of design documentation including technical reports, studies, calculations, Ventilation and Instrumentation diagrams, equipment data sheets, conceptual studies, and design proposals. utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), codes, standards, and design guides. Provides checking of mechanical engineering reports for clients as required. Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals. When delegated, provides guidance to other mechanical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects. Provides a monthly brown bag learning presentation on relevant HVAC subject matter. Mentors and aids junior team members as required. Completes mechanical documentation and procedures for equipment installation, maintenance, and operations. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
Education / Experience:
Level 1: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field. 5+ years of relevant experience producing HVAC load calculations, pressure drop calculations, ductwork design, and equipment selection is required. Engineer In-Training certification required. Knowledge of ASME AG-1, ASHRAE, SMACNA standards, and experience with DOE Nuclear Cleaning Handbook and relevant DOE design guides. Solid experience in the use of MS Office applications, i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc. Level 2: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field. 8+ years of relevant experience producing HVAC load calculations, pressure drop calculations, ductwork design, and equipment selection is required. Professional Engineer’s license is required. Knowledge of ASME AG-1, ASHRAE, SMACNA standards, and experience with DOE Nuclear Cleaning Handbook and relevant DOE design guides. Solid experience in the use of MS Office applications, i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc. Previous WTP experience using Bechtel procurement tools would be beneficial. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
