Within the Labs team, we focus on supporting diverse industries, ranging from power generation, and manufacturing to critical infrastructure, defense, and biopharmaceuticals. Our services encompass a breadth and scope not commonly found in one location. From conceptual design to detailed design, biological/fisheries studies, stream restoration, sediment transport and geomorphic analyses, analytical modeling, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), field assessments, physical modeling, precision flow meter calibrations, and field testing – all of these specialized services are found within our Labs team.
Formerly known as Alden Research Laboratory, our team proudly stands as the cornerstone of North America’s oldest continuously operating hydraulic modeling and testing laboratories. Comprising world-renowned engineers, biologists, and laboratory specialists, our shared enthusiasm is dedicated to unraveling intricate flow-related engineering and environmental challenges.

We are seeking a Senior Hydraulic Engineer and project manager with 10 to 20 years of experience in civil engineering hydraulics and its application in water resources, especially with hydraulic modeling, river mechanics, erosion control/bank stabilization, sediment transport, flood mitigation, and channel restoration and design. Our goal is to find a highly qualified individual who is driven and interested in being instrumental in expanding our water resources services. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding and history of performing riverine-based projects. The ability to communicate complex concepts to clients through oral, written, and graphical communication is key. Experience involving riverine flows, hydraulic structures, fish passage, channel design, sediment transport, and geomorphology is highly preferred. Experience with CFD modeling of civil hydraulics projects is also highly desired. The candidate must be a team player with strong leadership qualities but be comfortable working independently. The candidate will work closely with our Fort Collins, CO office. This position is hybrid and can be local to one of our 60+ office locations.

Responsibilities: Business development in the area of Water Resources Actively collaborate with our team and provide technical excellence and thought leadership in river/stream restoration, sediment transport, flood mitigation, fish passage, bridge hydraulics, and scour countermeasure design Meeting/speaking with prospective clients to learn their needs Management and technical execution of water resource engineering projects Develop technical approaches and costing, analysis of field and modeling data, interpretation of modeling results, and hydraulic design Technical writing (proposals, memos, reports, presentations, conference papers, etc.) Application of modeling tools in hydraulic assessments and design Attendance and presentation at industry conferences and trade shows Supervision and mentorship of technical staff
Qualifications: Master’s in Hydraulic or Civil Engineering preferred 10 to 20 years of experience in civil hydraulic engineering Project management experience Hydraulic and sediment-transport modeling and analysis CFD experience is a plus Registered as a Professional Engineer Marketing/business development capabilities (e.g., giving talks, writing papers) Supervisory and mentoring experience Experience with commonly used software for water resource modeling Must be able to pass a background check to be considered
