Summary of Job Duties:The Senior Immigration Specialist, along with the Immigration Services team, provides assistance, resources and advice on immigration-related employment issues and topics to the UAMS community. The primary responsibilities consist of immigration case management and advising, data maintenance and regulatory compliance, and education and outreach to campus departments regarding immigration processes.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, plus 4 years of immigration advising, international student/scholar advising, paralegal, or related experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of immigration/employment related laws, regulations, and procedures, such as F-1, J-1, H-1B or permanent residence cases. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Customer service skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, with diverse customer base. 

Detail-oriented, with superior writing, research, analytical and communication skills. 

Intermediate experience using Microsoft Office Suite [Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.].

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree

Experience with filing H-1B petitions, advising J-1 scholars, and TPL duties for J-1 Alien Physicians.

Knowledge of permanent residence regulations and processes.

Experience with Workday, SEVIS, Sprintax or other nonresident alien tax software, and immigration case management systems. 

Experience working in a higher education setting.

Responsibilities:

Immigration Case Management

Draft, review, and submit forms for employer-sponsored visa processes, including H-1B, J-1 Scholar and J-1 Physician, TN, and permanent residence; monitor the progress of immigration cases, and continually improve processes for regulatory compliance and greater efficiency.

Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 Scholars and Training Program Liaison (TPL) for J-1 Alien Physician programs; Maintain J-1 records in relevant systems, such as SEVIS and EVNet systems.

Research, interpret and understand complex immigration issues and regulations, and provide clear guidance to departments and employees accordingly.

Consultation & Education

Educate and advise hiring departments, candidates and employees on immigration options through individual consultations, presentations, online trainings, and other means.

Maintain immigration-related webpages on UAMS website, and update documents and presentations with accurate and timely information.

Respond to immigration-related questions, and provide immigration software assistance to departments and employees.

Data Maintenance & Compliance

Ensure institutional compliance with USCIS regulations and work authorization expirations

 Maintain and periodically audit employee data in various tracking systems.

Assist with onboarding of foreign national new hires.

May perform other duties as assigned and required.
