Job Summary:
Senior Indirect Tax Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with state and local indirect tax laws across the UGI organization. This role primarily focuses on controversy, compliance, tax accounting, and contributes to tax research and special projects. The Senior Indirect Tax Accountant is responsible for a range of taxes, included, but not limited to, Sales and Use Tax, Real and Personal Property Tax, Excise Tax, Gross Receipts, and Jurisdictional Business Taxes.
Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Assists in the timely preparation and review of the sales and use tax returns, business registrations, property tax assessments, business licenses, and gross receipt reports. Coordinates the completion of tax filings with third-party service provider that actually prepares the compliance returns. Supports indirect tax audits by gathering and reviewing requested information, assisting to defend the Company’s tax positions, and preparing responses to taxing authorities. Also responsible for meeting with the tax authorities and respective business unit management. Prepare and review reconciliations of indirect tax financial statement accounts and assist with tax accounting as needed. Contribute to the implementation of special indirect tax projects, involving internal research and analysis on various indirect tax issues, including global credits and incentives across the UGI organization. Assist in identifying, developing, and implementing indirect tax processes and procedures, along with efficiency improvements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft suite and finance technology software tools (i.e., OneSource, SAP, Oracle HFM, Alteryx, Indirect Taxation Systems, etc.) Excellent written and verbal communication skills Requires excellent time management and organizational skills Experience working with tax laws, tax forms and processing, accounting principles, accounting and tax software.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration/accounting 6+ years of progressively responsible professional-level tax experience in a multi-state reporting environment.
