Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Position Overview:

The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the design, development, and implementation of virtualization, storage and cloud solutions which support the current and future needs of the business. Day-to-day, the optimizations and performance of these solutions allow HomeServe USA to achieve its rapid growth. This is a critical IT Infrastructure component, so the candidate must have extensive experience in virtual, cloud and storage technologies. The focus of the Sr. Infrastructure Engineer will entail the engineering and support of all the virtualized systems across multiple data centers, and additionally administer the storage infrastructure while ensuring the environment is managed to meet best practice standards and agreed service availability (SLA’s). The successful candidate will also have experience in cloud platforms and will drive strategies for implementing cloud platforms at HomeServe USA.

 

Responsibilities:

Maintain the enterprise virtualization environment (VMware), including troubleshooting, performance monitoring and optimization, capacity, and continuity planning. Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of new virtualization technology solutions. Ensure company standard server technology policies are being followed by all business groups. Maintain an expert level of knowledge by maintaining current certifications, attending seminars or other related activities. Lead in the planning, design, and implementation of new storage technology. Interact with hardware and software vendors to ensure timely resolution to any issues or outages. Ensure servers and storage meet proper performance and capacity standards. Develop new or maintain existing systems based on given criteria. Participate in problem solving and troubleshooting for the Windows Server environment and related applications. Facilitate knowledge sharing by creating and maintaining detailed, comprehensive documentation and diagrams. Mentor less knowledgeable/experienced Infrastructure team members as needed. Maintain an expert level of knowledge in area of expertise by maintaining certifications current, attending seminars or though other related activities. Work with the IT Infrastructure team to ensure the quality of coordinated projects and business needs. Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and take responsibility for seeing those issues through resolution. Participate in project planning, design, and maintenance of IT Infrastructure Research and implement new technologies to improve the virtualization and storage environments. Participate in an on-call rotation for support of systems outside of normal business hours. Assist in the DR planning of a multi-site Virtualization and Storage infrastructure along with DR planning for local sites where IT Infrastructure equipment presents. Assist with the planning and deployment of infrastructure security measures. Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and development of the relevant IT systems. Participate in Post-Mortem meetings to discuss any outage occurrences, develop safeguards and, where appropriate, implement any recommended changes to avoid reoccurrence.

 

Job Requirements:

University degree in the field of computer science, engineering, or information systems. A minimum of 10 years of strong technical IT infrastructure/systems experience with a strong emphasis towards virtualization technologies, with proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in virtualization technologies directly. Subject Matter Expert knowledge of VMware ESX(i) Server 5.0 and above, and VMware vCenter. Advanced experience in SAN storage technologies and integration with VMware, specifically with EqualLogic and EMC VNX. Advanced experience in the use of SAN replication and SRM. Proficient knowledge of AWS or Azure. Proficient knowledge of virtualization optimization and industry best practices. Advance experience in deploying Windows Server technologies such as Server 2008, SQL server, etc. on VMware and the optimization of these platforms. Advanced experience in system and network management and monitoring tools such as What’s Up Gold, Veeam Monitor and v-COPS. Advanced experience and knowledge in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Perl, and VBScript. Excellent knowledge of DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SNMP and other TCP/IP protocols and services in support of the virtualization and storage technologies. Exceptional customer service skills, in addition to extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Capable of accomplishing tasks with minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all IT Infrastructure groups. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations. Understanding and application of ITIL principles and practices, and how they relate to the goals and objectives of the organization. Continually update and maintain, where necessary, all related documentation, technical or otherwise, for new and existing systems. This is to include inventory, change control, or process functionality documentation.

 

Desired Skills:

Certification in ITIL. VMware VCP Certification. AWS Certified Solutions Architect / Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate. Expert knowledge or working knowledge of Dell and Cisco UCS Intel based server hardware and deployment. Expert knowledge or working knowledge of supporting non-Windows operating systems in a virtual environment. Good understanding of virtualization platforms beyond VMware such as Citrix, KVM, Hyper-V. Knowledge and understanding of enterprise-class solutions in storage and networking such as Dell EqualLogic, EMC VNX, Data Domain, Cisco UCS, and Cisco Nexus. Experience dealing with vendors for providing timely solutions as required by their support contracts. Knowledge and understanding in adhering to company policies and procedures, such as the use of RFCs, procurement procedures and asset tracking.

Salary Range (Chattanooga, TN): $98,071.04 - $130,761.23
Salary Range: (Norwalk, CT): $119,864.60 - $159,819.29

Annual Bonus Potential: 10%
