Position Specific Description

Palms Insurance is NextEra Energy, Inc.’s wholly-owned insurance subsidiary that provides coverage for both affiliated and non-affiliated risks.  The Palms finance team is an integral part of developing strategy for managing risk and executing strategy for growth. We are seeking a senior accountant to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within the Property and Casualty Insurance sector. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for full scale accounting including account reconciliations, investment accounting, financial reporting, and analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, strong MS Excel skills, and great problem-solving and analytical skills.

The ideal candidate will have the following required qualifications:
•  Advanced MS Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, SUMIF)
•  Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels within the organization.
•  Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
•  Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
 
The ideal candidate will have the following preferred qualifications:
•  SAP or other large ERP experience
•  Strong knowledge of insurance accounting principles and regulations
•  3+ years of public accounting experience, insurance industry focused

Job Duties & Responsibilities
•   Prepares financial reports that are in compliance with GAAP, in a timely manner, to accurately reflect the financial status of the company
•   Maintains a good understanding of, and applies, GAAP, SEC regulations, and relative company policies, practices and procedures
•   Assures accounting integrity of corporate financial data through the implementation of appropriate internal controls
•   Prepares schedules and journal entries
•   Provides guidance and direction to other team members
•   Performs other job-related duties as assignedRequired Qualifications

•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance / Business
•  Experience: 4+ years

Preferred Qualifications
•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Business Administration
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
