Senior Insurance Investment Strategist, Investment Solutions
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Insurance Investment Strategist to support the growth of our Insurance Solutions business. The Mercer Insurance Solutions team has a mandate to grow both the Advisory and the Insurance Solutions business across the International Region i.e. global ex-US. The team works with all types of insurers – life, non-life, health and captive insurers, as well as reinsurers.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has experience working with institutional clients in an investment consulting capacity or with an insurance investment background and is looking to move into Fiduciary Management or focus on investment strategy. Equally, the role may appeal to candidates who already work in Fiduciary Management or candidates without specific insurance investment experience but investment and asset liability modelling background. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing investment strategies tailored to each client using Mercer’s best ideas. The role presents the right candidate with an opportunity to develop their investment knowledge and skills by working with a book of clients and helping to develop our insurance investment strategy solutions.

We will count on you to:
Develop/maintain a deep understanding of insurance client needs and requirements
Work closely with analysts, strategists, and lead consultants to design and implement investment strategies which incorporate Mercer’s best thinking
Consider how the investment strategy may evolve to reflect the changing dynamics of the insurance landscape, e.g. suitability of Matching Adjustment and other regulatory developments
Attend client meetings to deliver annual investment strategy reviews
Support the client team by providing technical insight into a client’s strategy
Liaise with Portfolio Management, Consulting and Operational teams to implement high quality strategies with efficiency, e.g. contribute towards implementing Dynamic Asset Allocation tilts for clients
Lead project teams or act as a senior resource for the largest projects. , Delegate work to analysts, provide guidance and peer review, and act as a coach/mentor to junior colleagues.
Act as a credible representative of Mercer with clients’ senior personnel and decision makers
Maintain and check technical accuracy, reasonableness of own work and others
Collaborate on projects to support the successful growth of the Strategy and Fiduciary business, e.g. development of the strategy solutions, integrating new software and maintaining internals tools and procedures
Contribute towards delivering growth in the Fiduciary segment through supporting pitches and ensuring Mercer stays ahead of the competition in the Fiduciary market
Contribute to Mercer’s publications for insurers and participate in Mercer-hosted insurance client events and related marketing activities and research
What you need to have:
Proven industry experience (ideally in an investment consulting or actuarial role) with the motivation to learn and succeed in a strategy orientated role
Qualified with CFA / Actuarial qualification (ideally fully qualified although part qualified actuaries may also be considered )
Degree level qualification with an excellent academic track record
Interest in the institutional investment landscape and strategy setting process
Have a keen eye for detail and intellectually ambitious with high standards of output
Proactive and outcome orientated with the ability to work well as part of a team and develop positive working relationships across the organisation
Excellent analytical and quantitative experience of modelling, risk analysis, stress and scenario analysis on insurance products/portfolios
What makes you stand out:
Experience with insurance investments is preferred but experience in other segments will be considered
Firm grasp of the underlying economic, investment and regulatory issues that determine insurers’ investment and business decision making
In-depth knowledge of insurers’ assets and liabilities; ability to construct optimal and practically implementable asset strategies to meet clients’ objectives
Ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and deliverables simultaneously
Excellent work ethic along with strong interpersonal and communication skills
