We are hiring a Senior Internal Audit Advisor, Health, Safety & Environment, [Full Time, Permanent] position working out of Edmonton, AB. This is an excellent opportunity for a team-oriented individual who is well versed in legislations and International Standards Organization (ISO) that govern Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and adept at applying these across EPCOR’s North American operations to foster a safety-first environment.

 

The Senior Internal Audit Advisor, Health, Safety and Environment, reports to the Senior Manager, Internal Audit and is responsible for completing assigned HSE engagements. This involves leading, coordinating and conducting HSE audits / assessments of EPCOR operations, developing HSE audit protocols, and managing other HSE activities and initiatives assigned by the Senior Manager, Internal Audit.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

Developing audit protocols, programs for HSE audits, assessments of EPCOR’s Canadian and U.S. operations. Managing the delivery of audit engagements that meet or exceed Internal Audit performance standards. Identifying and analyzing issues affecting operational performance and providing opportunities for improvement. Preparing comprehensive HSE audit reports outlining audit findings, risk rankings and recommendations. Collaborating with the Internal Audit team in performing integrated audits of EPCOR operations, specifically leading, coordinating and or conducting the audit of compliance with Canadian and U.S. HSE regulations and conformance with EPCOR’s HSE Management System.Ensuring ongoing, effective positioning and appropriate relationships between the Internal Audit group and the rest of EPCOR.Effectively engaging, managing, and working with internal or external subject matter experts on all audit engagements as required. Provide mentorship to other members of the Internal Audit group while ensuring knowledge is shared and transferred amongst all Internal Audit staff.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline with a professional health, safety, and environment designation (e.g., Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Environmental Professional (EP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), etc.).5+ years of experience as a health, safety, and environment professional; experience implementing management systems would be an asset. Strong working knowledge of Canadian health, safety and environment regulations and International Standards Organization (ISO) 14001 and 45001 standards.ISO 14001 and / or ISO 45001 lead auditor certification would be an asset. Knowledge of U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations would be an asset. Experience conducting HSE internal audits; experience as third-party auditor would be an asset. Experience in the utilities sector (electricity, water, wastewater, natural gas, etc.) would be an asset.  Excellent communication skills, proven report writing and presentation skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate ideas and actions to people at all levels of the enterprise.Demonstrated project or engagement management ability to plan and execute projects and engagements to successful completion.Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated creative, innovative, and strategic thinking.Solid understanding of risk and control principles and their applicability to typical business environment and issues.Able to travel within Canada and to the U.S. Proficient with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of SharePoint.

Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly.

 

Travel Requirements: This role requires regular travel to various EPCOR locations in the United States, with on-site work for one week during each travel period.
