The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Internal Auditor/Internal Auditor to support and assist Internal Audit (IA) leadership and team members across a wide range of audit activities. This role will encompass all responsibilities of the AVB IA team, with a primary focus on IT, accounting, financial controls, and oversight of capitalized spending, including construction, development, and capital expenditures. Other areas of high focus will likely include Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and various operational matters.  This will include opportunities to travel to on-site locations throughout the U.S.

The ideal candidate is a strong team player, collaborative, highly flexible, possesses an analytical mindset, welcomes and is very good at problem solving, and approaches their work in forward thinking and proactive manner. They should be eager to learn, very adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Current Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the development and execution of audit programs, internal control assessments, and process improvements.

Supports Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts and the IT general control environment.

Analyses spend and perform audits across construction, development, capital expenditures, property operations, and corporate functions.

Conduct financial transaction and activity analysis, risk assessments, and issue resolution.

Research and stay current on emerging audit technologies and best practices.

Collaborate with business and IT teams to improve internal controls and risk management frameworks.

Develops, grows and enhances lop stakeholder relationships, promoting awareness of internal controls and compliance standards.

Education & Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Information Systems.

Preferred but not required: CPA, CIA, CFE, CISA, CISSP, CCP, CCA certifications.

Experience:

2-3 years of relevant internal audit, accounting, or risk management experience.

Familiarity with Workday (GL, HR, Payroll, Procurement) and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance is preferred.

Understanding of IIA and PCAOB standards, COSO framework, and data analytics tools is a plus.

Knowledge of construction, development, capital expenditures, and IT control environments is a plus.

Skills & Abilities:

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Effective written and verbal communication abilities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio).

Ability to multi-task, work independently, and manage time efficiently.

High level of professionalism, integrity, and business acumen.

Enthusiasm for learning new technologies, data analytics, and AI-driven audit tools.

Work Environment & Travel:

Position is based in Arlington, VA

Willingness and ability to travel approximately 30% of the time.
