OVERVIEW: The Senior Investment Specialist is a key contributor to the Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) Wealth Client Group’s (WCG) Portfolio Solutions Group (PSG), serving as a technical subject matter expert (SME) within specific segments of the capital markets for Northern Trust Wealth Management (NTWM) portfolio advisors and third-party financial intermediaries.
SUMMARY: The Senior Investment Specialist is a critical link between portfolio advisors and the WCG relationship management team, playing a significant role in new business origination and client relationship management while working closely with the PSG Program Managers in developing and executing effective sales and content strategy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a specialized SME in all facets of a particular investment segment of the capital markets (i.e., equities, fixed income, or alternatives).
Distill complex market- and/or investment-related information into simple, easy-to-understand language, communications, talking points, etc.
Work closely with portfolio advisors and relationship managers to develop bespoke portfolio solutions that utilize both NTAM and non-NTAM solutions in order to meet clients’ specific needs.
Conduct in-depth portfolio analysis (e.g., efficient frontier analysis, diversification analysis, product comparisons, etc.) and make thoughtful portfolio recommendations
Travel to various advisor offices, client events, business conferences, etc. to promote and present NTAM’s investment solutions.
Work closely with PSG Program Managers to develop and execute on sales and content strategy within the context of PSG’s four pillars of focus: market insights pieces, product support and training, investment webinars, and sales campaigns.
Partner closely with various groups within the organization (e.g., Investments, Marketing, Product Management, etc.) and within the broader WCG team (e.g., client strategy & engagement, business enablement, strategic accounts, sales & distribution) to execute the business plan.
Stay intimately aware of latest market events, industry trends, and the competitive landscape.
Guide, direct, mentor, and/or manage other members of the Portfolio Solutions Group.
QUALIFICATIONS:
10+ years investment-related experience with relevant subject matter expertise in equities, fixed income, or alternatives.
Strong knowledge of investment solutions and services, ideally acquired through related work experience as an investment specialist (e.g., portfolio manager, client portfolio manager, research analyst, trader, strategist, etc.).
Strong investment acumen and analytical skills applicable to the capital markets.
Proven team player with the ability to work well in a group.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Prior experience servicing investment advisors and/or financial intermediaries.
Requisite FINRA securities license(s) preferred.
Bachelor degree; Candidates for CFA, CIMA and/or attainment of said designations preferred.
