Senior IT Engineer
**Job Summary** The IT Engineer Senior position in the NiSource IT department supports the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions for various products and/or platforms. The incumbent will focus on assigned technical product/platform. This role involves working on an agile product/platform team that requires hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions. **Essential Functions** + **ServiceNow Discovery Implementation & Optimization** + Plan, design, and deploy ServiceNow Discovery to automatically identify and map IT infrastructure components. + Develop and refine discovery patterns to collect accurate data from servers, network devices, and cloud resources. + Configure and manage discovery schedules to ensure timely and efficient data updates in the CMDB. + Integrate discovery results with ServiceNow ITSM, ITAM and ITOM processes, including Incident, Problem, and Change Management. + **CMDB & IT Asset Management (ITAM) Administration** + Monitor and manage CMDB health, ensuring data accuracy through automated discovery. + Identify and resolve data quality issues, enhancing asset visibility and lifecycle management. + Implement data cleansing and normalization procedures to maintain CMDB and ITAM integrity. + Collaborate with ITAM teams to ensure discovered assets are properly categorized, tracked, and aligned with procurement and financial records + **Credential & Security Management** + Securely manage and distribute credentials required for discovery across various systems. + Implement access controls and best practices to protect sensitive credentials + **Troubleshooting & Support** + Diagnose and resolve discovery errors related to patterns, credentials, and network connectivity. + Provide technical support and guidance to IT teams on discovery functionality and data interpretation. + **Performance Tuning & Continuous Improvement** + Analyze discovery performance metrics to optimize schedules and resource usage. + Continuously refine discovery processes to improve scalability and efficiency + **Required Qualifications For Position** + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience. + 7-9 years of relevant IT product/platform engineering or software development experience, including but not limited to the domain technologies listed below. + 4+ Years experience and expert knowledge of ServiceNow CMDB & Discovery, ITAM, ITSM applications with hands on experience with Discovery module of ServiceNow at a large company. + Strong Experience with UNIX/Linux, Windows system administration and understanding of SAN/NAS storage, TCP/IP Networking. + Proficiency in Unix and Windows scripting (Perl, shell, PowerShell, Javascript, etc.) + Strong Experience with scripting languages (JavaScript, PowerShell, or Python) for customizing discovery patterns. + Strong Experience with Desired State and Data Certification + Understanding of IT infrastructure, including servers, network devices, and cloud platforms. + Knowledge of IT asset lifecycle management and asset reconciliation processes + Familiarity with network protocols, authentication methods, and access controls. + Ability to analyze complex data and resolve data quality issues + Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. + Good communication and collaboration skills. + Proficiency using development tools and software. + Highly motivated, self-learner, and technically inquisitive. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills + Professional certifications in relevant IT areas. + Experience in a similar industry or sector. + **Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position** **Physical Demands** + Standing - Occasionally + Walking - Occasionally + Sitting - Constantly + Lifting - Rarely + Carrying - Rarely + Pushing - Rarely + Pulling - Rarely + Climbing - Rarely + Balancing - Rarely + Stooping - Rarely + Kneeling - Rarely + Crouching - Rarely + Crawling - Rarely + Reaching - Rarely + Handling - Occasionally + Grasping - Occasionally + Feeling - Rarely + Talking - Constantly + Hearing - Constantly + Repetitive Motions - Frequently + Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination - Frequently + The preceding description is not designed to be a complete list of all duties and responsibilities required of the position. **Work Authorization** Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship. **Inclusion & Diversity** Value inclusion within your day to day responsibilities by respecting others perspectives/convictions, engaging others opinions, creating a safe environment where people, ideas, and opinions are valued within your Team/Customers and external partners.
