The Senior Laboratory Technician will provide high-quality technical support for research projects under the direction of the PI. The incumbent will perform a wide variety of scientific assays and tests involving the application of complex research methods and techniques. Organize and carry out specific detailed experiments, to generate data in support of the Investigator’s research program while adhering to agreed protocols and objectives. The Senior Laboratory Technician will be operating and maintaining highly complex laboratory equipment, checking equipment for malfunctions, and performing minor repairs. Incumbent will prepare solutions and reagents needed to perform molecular biology techniques such as Western Blot and RT-PCR; cell/tissue cultures of various origin including primary, immortalized, bone cell subsets and cell lines. The incumbent must have the ability to manage an animal colony and execute mouse modeling of widely prevalent esophageal diseases, both independently and in collaboration with laboratory personnel. Responsibilities may include animal husbandry, breeding of mice, tissue harvesting/processing, and in vivo experiments. Will perform computer data entry and word processing, maintain log of storage samples using Freezer Pro, monitor freezers using Elemental Machines Cloud server and assist in experimental design of and carrying out experiments using various techniques in molecular biology including troubleshooting where necessary.
The Senior Laboratory Technician must have the ability assist with writing animal protocols and ensure that all laboratory personnel are trained in a manner compliant to the approved protocols. This individual will be required to order animals for research and maintain a log of the animal usage for each IACUC protocols of the PI. Incumbent will also be required to prepare animals for surgery and assist in minor surgical techniques.
Ordering, receiving and stocking general incoming lab supplies, distributing, maintaining, and stocking chemicals in storage and laboratory areas. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience\:
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific related field and at least two years of research experience within a laboratory setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience with animal models preferred.
Required Skills & Abilities\:
*Animal husbandry experience in a research setting required
*Demonstrated ability to perform standard molecular biology techniques, including Western Blot, and RT-PCR techniques.
*Demonstrated ability to prepare solutions and reagents.
*Ability to keep accurate records of research performed to NIH standards.
*Demonstrated ability to operate standard office equipment and software including MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Cloud.
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
*Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment.
