Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Laboratory Technologist - Full Time Nights 12AM-8AM; rotating schedule/weekends - Laboratory.

In this role, the successful candidate Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of complex and/or non-routine testing procedures and analyses ordered by the clinical staff to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of medical disorders and/or the determination of body functioning and reaction to treatment. These tests and analyses require the regular application of advanced problem solving and/or research skills due to their difficult and complex nature.

Job Responsibilities:

Technical Skills

Applies an advanced level of knowledge and experience in all areas of responsibility. Performs all preventive maintenance on schedule in accordance with laboratory procedure. Recognizes abnormal instrument or test performance and does not release patient results until the situation is corrected. Takes appropriate action to correct instrument or test malfunctions and advises supervisor of situation. Documents all information completely and accurately. Monitors reagent and supply inventory and informs supervisor of needs. Verifies and processes specimens in an organized and timely manner. Can perform phlebotomy when necessary with expertise. Works effectively in high-pressure situations.  Does not lose composure or make mistakes when processing a high volume of work. Organizes work well so that others can easily work with them and take over for them in their absence Follows procedures in accordance with policy.

Analytical Skills

Demonstrates a strong ability to analyze problems to determine the cause and find solutions. Is methodical in solving problems. Is creative and uses all available resources to solve problems. Displays knowledge of mathematical and statistical calculations.

Quality Assurance

Performs Quality Control according to Laboratory protocol. Documents Quality Control Documents corrective action when needed. Takes appropriate action when Q.C. fails. Results are accurate. Completes all continuing education requirements. Provides assistance to coworkers to correct difficulties.

Communication

Communicates clearly and concisely. Listens attentively and follows directions. Demonstrates proper telephone techniques and etiquette. Effectively utilizes the computer to process specimens, report results and access information. Communicates ideas and suggestions with a positive intent. Conveys respect for the profession and acts in a professional manner. Works well in cooperation with others. Communicated knowledge and demonstrates procedures effectively to coworkers and students. Demonstrates willingness to utilize technical communications (procedure manuals etc.) in the execution of job.

Other functions and Performance Expectations

Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance. Reports to assigned area on time for scheduled shift. Adheres to hospital/department dress code.  Arrives to work appropriately dressed, well groomed and neat. Completes all hospital requirement at designed times. (i.e. annual assessment, educational, MedNetTra) Conforms to policies regarding confidentiality of information Follows call-in procedure when sick, late, or absent.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a BS in Medical Technology or related discipline.
NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligible
5 years clinical laboratory experience. Professional accreditation preferred.
Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations.
Possess a strong knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems.
Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
Technical skills necessary to operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform routine and complex testing
Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and effectiveness and quality of work reflects high professional standards.
Effectively communicates and explains detailed data and complex procedures.
Works effectively in high-pressure situations..

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $98,650.50 - $123,337.50 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
