The school of Electrical & Information Engineering (EIE) within the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment at the University of the Witwatersrand invites applications for the position of Computer Network Engineer. This is a full-time position.

Brief DescriptionDuties: The Computer Network Engineer is responsible for day-to-day management of the School LAN and Unix servers, continuing development of the School s Intranet Services, expanding and growing network services within the school, providing technical liaison between the School and Wits ICT, and assisting with the management of the school computer laboratory. Reports to the Head of School.Key Functions:
- 1) Servers and Server Administration:
o Administration of EIE servers and network services.o Planning and budgeting for network servers.o Full administration of school-wide network, school-based Unix workstations.o Maintaining inter-networking availability, including TCP/TP Support.o Backup and disaster recovery.
- 2) ICT Support:o Provide technical LAN support maintenance within the School of EIE.o Assist the school/Faculty in implementing cyber security requirements.o Provide support on LAN, WIFI.
- 3) Technical support in Computer Laboratory:o Assisting students in the computer laboratory and preparing computer laboratory for use and ad-hoc for the School.o Perform required maintenance and modifications to computer laboratory devices.
Competencies:Good interpersonal skills; good verbal and written communication skills; technical expertise; planning and organising skills; computing skills; financial management.
Qualifications:Minimum: A completed National Diploma in IT Certifications in IT Subjects (for example: A+ / Network Plus (N+) / Programming certifications). At least 3 years related experience.
Desirable: B Sc in Information systems /BTech in Information Technology At least 5 years related experience.
