Senior Lead Counsel 1 - Cybersecurity/AML
The Senior Lead Counsel for Compliance and Security & Investigative Services/Cybersecurity will report into the Enterprise Advisory, Client and ICRM Legal Department. The attorney occupying this position will spend approximately 50% of their time advising on cybersecurity legal matters, primarily cybersecurity incident prevention and response (including customer and regulatory notifications, contractual obligations, legal risk mitigation, and general legal advisory to cyber and information security stakeholders). The remaining 50% of their time will be spent advising Citi Security and Investigative Services on various matters including internal investigations related to potential violations of internal policies and procedures, criminal and civil laws, and other scenarios that could require disclosure to the federal government, including bank regulatory agencies, and interacting with law enforcement agencies. Responsibilities will also include advising Citi’s Compliance function, including on matters related to financial crimes. Compliance and Security & Investigative Services responsibilities include: - Directing and advising on in-depth investigations into complex matters of significance to Citi which may include involvement in disciplinary processes, advising business and senior stakeholders on investigation outcomes, coordinating responses to external discovery requests, interacting with law enforcement and regulators, and retaining and managing external counsel. - Providing legal advice and guidance to Citi Security & Investigative Services on non-investigation matters, including physical security issues. - Providing legal advice and guidance to Citi’s Compliance function and business lines regarding various compliance topics, including anti-money laundering and other financial crime regulations and investigations. Cyber responsibilities include: - Engaging in day-to-day legal support for cyber and information security incident response, including associated privacy implications when needed. - Advising business stakeholders on regulatory inquiries regarding cyber and information security issues and/or events (e.g., supply-chain issues). - Advising Citi’s Cyber Security Fusion Center (CSFC) and the Citi global franchise on legal risks associated with various components of Citi’s cyber and information security program, including, but not limited to, on matters involving penetration testing, incident response strategies, regulatory compliance, and incident investigations. - Tracking existing and proposed cybersecurity rules and regulations and advising on interpretations thereof in order to inform a compliance strategy. - Working with legal and product teams globally to review products, features, new applications and initiatives to provide legal risk mitigation advice. - Drafting cybersecurity presentations, exercises, and trainings, as well as presenting and participating as needed. - Advising on the development and implementation of information security governance. - Supporting data privacy activities in the context of the cybersecurity program and incident response. - Collaborating with colleagues throughout the CSFC, Citi Security and Investigative Services, and the Legal Department. Requirements: - JD or equivalent law degree with minimum of five (5) years’ experience. - Background and experience advising clients on cyber/data/privacy issues or supporting a technology or information security team as well as experience conducting investigations strongly preferred. - Self-starter with the ability to engage directly with internal clients and lead significant projects. - Excellent research and analytical skills. - Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization, as well as other attorneys, law enforcement professionals, internal investigators, and regulators on a daily basis. - Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, work under tight time pressures and comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced corporate setting. - Ability to quickly analyze regulations and guidance to provide practical advice to internal clients. - Proven ability to work with other compliance and/or investigative professionals and experience with internal investigations. - Highly responsive and client relationship focused. - The candidate should preferably have experience working in or with financial institutions. - Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities to deal with unforeseen events. - Exceptional time-management skills a must and the willingness to work outside of normal business hours during emergency events. ------------------------------------------------------ **Job Family Group:** Legal ------------------------------------------------------ **Job Family:** Legal - Enterprise ------------------------------------------------------ **Time Type:** Full time ------------------------------------------------------ **Primary Location:** New York New York United States ------------------------------------------------------ **Primary Location Full Time Salary Range:** $211,280.00 - $316,920.00 In addition to salary, Citi’s offerings may also include, for eligible employees, discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
