Senior Lead Counsel 1 - Litigation (Hybrid)
We are looking for an attorney to join the Litigation Group in New York supporting Markets, Banking, Wealth, and Services in connection with a broad range of litigations, arbitrations, related regulatory inquiries, investigations, complex subpoenas, and attachment orders. The Group’s litigation docket includes class action and other cases in federal and state courts in New York and other jurisdictions relating to antitrust, securities fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and other claims. The Group also handles internal investigations, particularly in connection with ethics complaints, whistleblower escalations, and potential policy violations. Specific responsibilities include defending and managing complex cases, providing strategic input and direction, preparing witnesses for testimony, reviewing court submissions, attending mediations, working with joint defense groups, and assisting in trial/arbitration preparations. The attorney who joins the Group will independently handle matters as well as supervise external counsel, including supervising external legal spend and maintaining responsible budgets. This role requires significant interaction with business line managers and professionals in the control functions through regular presentations of defense plans and case updates. This role also entails advising businesses and other functions on litigation prevention strategies and assisting in the implementation of enhanced processes and procedures. The attorney who joins this Group will work closely with colleagues in other regions around the globe on cross-border and cross-affiliate issues that require collaboration and coordination. **Qualifications:** + JD or equivalent and requisite bar admission + A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in complex litigation proceedings + Significant experience at a major law firm or in-house position at a financial services company + It would be a plus for the candidate to have previous exposure to capital markets, institutional sales and trading, derivatives and/or commercial and investment banking matters + The desirable candidate should possess the following characteristics: + Highest standards of integrity; + Collaborative work habits, including acting in the interests of a common cause + A proactive, energetic, and pragmatic approach to business and legal issues + Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters to non-lawyers + Active listening skills + The ability to successfully work with clients located in different locations (both within the U.S. and around the world) + A problem-solving, commercial orientation and a “can do” attitude, with a presence that commands respect ------------------------------------------------------ **Job Family Group:** Legal ------------------------------------------------------ **Job Family:** Legal - Enterprise ------------------------------------------------------ **Time Type:** Full time ------------------------------------------------------ **Primary Location:** New York New York United States ------------------------------------------------------ **Primary Location Full Time Salary Range:** $211,280.00 - $316,920.00 In addition to salary, Citi’s offerings may also include, for eligible employees, discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
