Essential functions (job duties): Job Purpose Develop and execute the strategies, initiatives and fundraising efforts for the School of Medicine’s Leadership Annual Gift Program. Design and implement fundraising plans specific to key donor populations using data analysis and segmentation. Create materials needed to execute fundraising efforts and manage a portfolio of leadership annual gift prospects of approximately 100-150 alumni and friends. Identify and qualify both leadership annual and major gift prospects. Cultivate, solicit, and steward leadership annual gift donors to meet established fundraising goals within the allocated expense budget. This position reports to the Senior Director, Donor Experience and Individual Giving. The essential functions are listed in order of importance.) Manage a portfolio of leadership annual gift prospects of approximately 100-150 alumni and friends. Identify and qualify both leadership annual and major gift prospects. Conduct one-on-one solicitations to strengthen constituent relations and increase donor giving at the $1,000 or higher level. Responsible for achieving assertive annual fundraising goal and assisting in meeting unit goals. Performance and productivity will be measured on the following core metrics as determined annually: Dollars raised for cash and in-kind gifts Number of gifts solicited between $1,000-$24,999 Number of gifts closed from $1,000-$24,999 Number of personal, strategic meetings (visits) with prospects and donors Number of significant and personal contacts made via phone and email with prospects and donors 30% Develop fundraising plans, strategies, materials and activities to engage alumni and build a major donor pipeline. Establish and document a case for support of the Medical Alumni Annual Fund, a key aspect of the leadership gift strategy for the School of Medicine (SOM). Build a solicitation strategy that centers on the SOM Alumni annual fund and is in alignment with the goals of the Medical Alumni Association. Establish realistic and achievable timelines and remain current with fundraising trends and techniques. 25% Develop a School of Medicine-specific solicitation and stewardship strategy to engage Wayne Loyal (Wayne State’s consecutive giving society) donors and prospects at the $1,000+ giving level. Manage processes to increase engagement and giving from this key donor segment. Implement strategies to ensure appropriate stewardship for all prospects and donors, including custom strategies for loyal donors. Assist with the coordination and distribution of endowment impact reports and annual scholarship reports. Work with donors to answer questions as needed. 20% Develop new strategies to engage prospects and donors to increase participation in alumni and donor events and programs. Review and suggest improvements to existing processes. Provide oversight and manage follow-up activities to acquire and upgrade donors and encourage gifts at the $1,000 or higher level. Analyze and segment data to develop appropriate prospect groups and solicitation pools. 10% Serve as liaison to the Annual and Digital Campaigns team on behalf of the School of Medicine. Collaborate and strategize with the Annual and Digital Campaigns team on methodologies to increase the alumni, staff, student, and friends donor base. Play an active role in designing and implementing plans for the annual Giving Day for the School of Medicine. Assist with the editing of annual giving solicitation letters, emails, and webpages. 5% Draft and negotiate gift and pledge documentation ranging from simple to moderate complexity. Regularly route donor contributions and required paperwork to central development for timely processing. Engage School of Medicine colleagues to support prospect strategies, as appropriate. 5% Perform other related duties and complete special projects as assigned. 5% WORK CONTEXT This grid characterizes the position scope. Reasonable knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures. Experience Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience) Minimum 5 years of experience working as a fundraising professional in direct individual solicitations. Direct experience preparing proposals, managing a portfolio and conducting gift solicitations of $1,000 and higher required. Higher education or non-profit development and prior volunteer management experience required. Professional understanding of, and interest in, Development and Alumni Affairs best practices and general operations. Positive and collaborative professional philosophy, recognizing that this position is integral to the achievement of the goals and objectives of Development and Alumni Affairs.
