Job Summary

The Senior Disability & Leave Examiner is responsible for evaluating and managing short-term disability, state disability, and leave claims (e.g., Family Medical Leave Act, statutory leaves, company-specific leaves). This role ensures decisions are made accurately and timely, and that claimants receive the proper benefits. You will analyze information to verify eligibility, investigate claims, and communicate decisions clearly to all stakeholders. As a subject matter expert, you’ll also train new employees and oversee the work of other team members.

Review complex disability and leave claims and ensure they are processed in line with company policies and legal requirements.

Approve claims, benefits, and leave decisions, ensuring the appropriate amount and duration of coverage.

Respond to inquiries from claimants, policyholders, and other parties with professionalism and accuracy.

Provide training and act as a subject matter expert within the team, supporting department functions as needed.

Ability to work independently and manage complex claims with minimal supervision is a requirement of the role.*

Skills and Background You’ll Need

Must have:

High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.3+ years of experience in disability benefits administration or equivalent combination of experience and education.Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and decision-making ability.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

Knowledge of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), state disability laws, and other leave types.Experience in training and coaching team members.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.

 

Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

20.91 - 30.53
