This is a 12-month non-tenure accruing position that will be 100% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences), available in the West Florida Research and Education Center (WFREC), Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida and associated with the Department of Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences in Gainesville. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. This position involves academic coordination, advising, and teaching in dynamic academic programs at WFREC. The senior lecturer will take on responsibilities and activities associated with coordinating the WFREC teaching programs (Natural Resource conservation and Plant Science) and representing the center regarding overall academic programmatic issues when needed. The senior lecturer is also responsible for the supervision of the WFREC Academic Assistant and Academic Recruiter. The senior lecturer will also teach classes in both programs. Assignments will focus on 3000 and 4000 level courses and labs in support of the Natural Resource Conservation and Plant Science programs at WFREC. The successful candidate will teach an undergraduate course in Dendrology, a lab to support the Introduction to Soils and the Environment lecture course, and additional courses that could include Foundations in Natural Resources and Conservation, Capstone in Natural Resources, and Forest Mensuration depending on the candidate’s interest and experience. The successful candidate will provide undergraduate advising, develop policies, and contribute to student success initiatives. This role includes mentoring other advisors, guiding students in academic and career planning, and interpreting university regulations. This individual will actively participate in university committees including undergraduate committees associated with Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences, Plant Science, School of Forests, Fisheries and Geomatic Sciences, and Wildlife Ecology and Conservation.

UF/IFAS employs nearly 4,500 people, which includes approximately 990 salaried faculty and 1,400 permanent support personnel located in Gainesville and throughout the state. IFAS, one of the nation’s largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations, is administered by a Vice President and four deans: the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Dean for Extension and Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine.  UF/IFAS also engages in cooperative work with Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

This position is part of the UF/IFAS West Florida Research and Education Center located northeast of Pensacola, Florida. The WFREC has an off-campus undergraduate academic program that is a collaborative effort between the University of Florida, Pensacola State College (PSC) and the University of West Florida. This unique academic program, located at the PSC campus in Milton (approximately 20 miles northeast of Pensacola, FL), allows students to pursue a B.S. degree in Natural Resource Conservation or Plant Science. In addition to the Milton location, the Center consist of a Jay Research Facility which is a 640 acre research unit located about 12 miles north of Milton near Jay, FL. Research is conducted in cropping systems, weed science, golf and sports turf management, landscape and nursery management, forestry, and wildlife ecology. The WFREC faculty and staff are dedicated to interdisciplinary research, extension and teaching programs that meet the needs of local clientele with statewide, nationwide as well as global impacts. The location of WFREC allows families to enjoy the advantages of rural living while being within minutes of Pensacola, one of Florida's major cities, Gulf of Mexico beaches; and extensive public forest lands and rivers.

Minimum Requirements:

A master’s degree or doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in natural resources or a closely related discipline is required. A minimum of five years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level is expected. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, and interpersonal relationships. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to UF core values. 

Preferred Qualifications:

A Doctorate is preferred.

Employment Conditions
