PayPal’s Legal team is looking for an experienced, highly-engaged, and collaborative privacy lawyer to serve as our Senior Legal Counsel Privacy. Reporting to the EU Director of Privacy Legal, this role will be responsible for driving EU privacy advice across various product and regulatory areas.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in advising product teams on privacy and data protection and a strong grasp of online technologies. They must be skilled at translating legal concepts into practical advice and an active driver of solutions. They must thrive in a cross-functional, fast-moving environment.

Job Description:

Your day to day:

Serve as a key subject matter expert and advisor on EU privacy and data protection issues.Partner with product, business, compliance, and other legal teams to proactively address regulatory guidance and issues and drive high-impact projects.Coordinate with U.S.-based lawyers to advise business and product teams in a unified manner.Scale privacy knowledge across the department through trainings and development of resources.Collaborate with Compliance colleagues and the Global Privacy Office to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.Maintain subject matter expertise in new and evolving areas of global privacy law and policy.Advise on new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting data privacy and data security, including identifying trends and potential impacts on business activities. Develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of PayPal’s core business and strong relationships with business counterparts to drive the delivery of effective legal services.Model and coach others on leader behaviors including growth mindset, collaboration, action-bias, direct and empathetic communication.

 What do you need to bring-

JD degree with excellent academic credentials and 6+ years of relevant experience in-house or at a law firm.  Deep privacy subject matter expertise with EU privacy tech regulation and experience of interaction with data privacy authorities.  Financial or payment privacy experience strongly preferred but not required.Demonstrated experience advising product teams on global privacy regulations, translating legal guidance into practical solutions, and driving solutions cross-functionally.Excellent project management skills, well organized, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.A high-level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility, combined with sound judgment and high tolerance for ambiguity.Team oriented, with ability to keep a cool head, empathy, and a sense of humor in busy and high-pressured environments.
