What you will doReporting to the Vice President of Legal & Compliance, this role will act as legal counsel for Volvo Group Australia. No day will be the same with this widely varied and dynamic position.
This position will support the Vice President of Legal & Compliance to proactively guide and support the business on legal matters, identify and mitigate legal risks, and ensure that business activities comply with relevant laws and regulations, and with Volvo Group Legal & Compliance policies and processes.
Key responsibilities include:
• Provide legal guidance to key stakeholders, while ensuring compliance with Volvo Group Legal policies, corporate governance, and regulatory requirements (competition, consumer law, privacy, automotive manufacturing, etc.).
• Support in reviewing and overseeing various contracts, including dealer agreements, supplier contracts, NDAs, settlement deeds, and customer agreements.
• Manage litigation, regulatory inquiries, and major customer/supplier disputes while coordinating with external legal service providers.
• Support the franchised dealer agreement process and ensure legal compliance in dealer relationships.
• Handle insurance matters, including personal injury claims, and implement cost-efficient legal strategies.
• Provide legal support for M&A activities and new business initiatives.
• Review marketing materials, sponsorship agreements, promotions, donations, and oversee property leases and acquisitions.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, manage whistleblower complaints, and assist with health & safety legal matters.
• Other duties as required.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years post admission experience and possess:
• A desire to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders;
• A proven ability to provide strategic legal guidance while ensuring compliance with Volvo Group Legal policies, corporate governance, and regulatory requirements (competition, consumer law, privacy, automotive manufacturing, etc.).
• Experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various contracts, including dealer agreements, supplier contracts, NDAs, settlement deeds, and customer agreements, as well as supporting M&A activities and new business initiatives.
• Strong capability in managing litigation, regulatory inquiries, customer/supplier disputes, and insurance matters (including personal injury claims) while implementing cost-efficient legal strategies.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior executives, external legal counsel, and cross-functional teams.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives, and the ability to adapt to evolving business needs as directed by the Vice President of Legal & Compliance.
