The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform cataloging, assist with library operations and provide customer service to patrons. The position is responsible for cataloging and physically managing library materials and equipment, providing reference and research support, providing customer service, and supervising Other Personnel Services (OPS) support staff, as needed. The position works under general supervision according to some procedures and decides how and when to complete tasks. Examples of Work • Cataloging & Classification: Oversee the cataloging and classification of library materials using AACR2, RDA, and MARC standards; maintain bibliographic, serial, and authority records in SirsiDynix EOS. Participate reclassification, re-cataloging, and database clean-ups. • Library Material Processing: Manage ordering, receiving, cataloging, invoice processing, and inventorying of library materials; prepare new books and resources for shelving. • Collection Management: Supervise the organization, relocation, and re-shelving of books and audio materials; assist with moving shelving to optimize space utilization. • Customer Service & Legal Research Assistance: Assist State Courts System (SCS) staff and public patrons with legal research, locating materials, and using legal databases. • Clerical & Administrative Support: Gather and prepare reports, memoranda, and letters; maintain records and perform data entry; handle faxing, photocopying, and other document processing tasks. • Library Policy & Procedure Development: Assist in formulating and implementing library policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance operations and patron services. • Technology & System Updates: Stay informed about advances in library technology and information management systems, implementing improvements as needed. • Staff Supervision & Training: Direct and supervise library staff handling material processing, ensuring accuracy and adherence to cataloging standards. Education and Training Guidelines Master’s degree in library information studies or other related discipline. Two years of work experience in library operations and conducting research. Competencies -Effectively work with colleagues, legal professionals, and library users to enhance library services. -Ability to maintain accurate bibliographic, serial, and authority records. -Skilled in processing, organizing, relocating, and maintaining library collections. -Ability to assist patrons with legal research and locate relevant materials. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
