This position will be the primary cataloger for PACL and will be responsible for managing and adding materials data to the library’s catalog (Sierra ILS and Bibliocommons discovery layer); original and copy cataloging , including monitoring and staying current with OCLC, USMARC, RDA, LCSH, DDC, AACR2, and bibliographic formats and standards, and authority files. The ideal candidate will have : + Excellent organizational and time management skills + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively + Ability to adapt to changing and evolving Library procedures, priorities and information technologies + Good knowledge of professional library theories, issues and trends + Ability to problem-solve issues in cataloging + Good judgment based on logical reasoning and cataloging principles is necessary + Ability to consistently apply cataloging rules and standards + Must be able to work independently and be self-directed + Collection development experience Essential Duties: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: + Performs original cataloging and classification efficiently utilizing an on-line computerized cataloging system; assigns access points for materials; establishes new bibliographic computer records in accordance with recognized standards; handles special services such as transfers; monitors variety of selection maintenance activities. + Communicates cataloging decisions to staff; answers questions from staff regarding OPAC displays; monitors the quality of vendor-created records. + In consultation with the Division Head and Library Services Manager , establishes and monitors selection fund accounts within the integrated library system; assists the Division Head and Library Services Manager in allocating the annual materials budget; coordinates the activities of adult materials selectors; trains new selectors. + Develops, organizes, and maintains variety of up-to-date collections (such as reference resource files and government document files) not cataloged in usual manner. + Assists with recruitments, interviews, schedules, trains, initiates and coordinates work of regular, temporary and volunteer staff as assigned; assumes responsibility of unit. Master's degree in Library or Information Science may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Preferred Qualifications: + Previous original and copy cataloging experience, or course work. + Experience with an online integrated library systems and the OCLC system. + Bilingual skills preferred Supplemental Information: Working Conditions / Physical Requirements: Work in a library environment with the public; sustained posture in a standing, walking or seated position for prolonged periods of time; perform bending, lifting, crouching and pushing; perform repetitive small hand and arm motions for prolonged periods of time; may travel to other library facilities; exposed to computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
