Job Summary
Performs cataloging related tasks for library materials in all languages and formats for library resources to be accessible in a timely manner via the library discovery tool. Works with bibliographic, authority and inventory metadata for data modification and maintenance purposes using relevant library platforms (e.g., Alma, etc.) and bibliographic utilities (e.g., OCLC Connexion, etc.) This is a Library Union position.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Perform copy cataloging of library materials in all languages and formats following the established standards and policies (RDA and LC/PCC Policy Statements) using the MARC (Machine Readable Catalog) data standards and other non-MARC standards (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, etc.)Search and identify the best record from WorldCat and the library’s bibliographic database for cataloging processing and edits.Review and verify the validity of access points (names and subject headings) provided in bibliographic recordsReview and verify the call number provided in the copy record is valid and appropriate based on the guidelines of the Library of Congress Classification System using the LC ClassWeb system.Assist with cataloging and processing of special and archival materials following established standards and procedures as directedInventories, arranges, describes and catalogs manuscript collections materials utilizing various systems as directedIdentifies, investigates and resolves complex problems related to catalog records for monographs, serials, and sets as directedApplies various metadata standards to describe digital image collections and encode finding aids for manuscript collections.Participates in ongoing internal database maintenance and authority control as directedParticipates in team projectsCreates and revises item, check-in and holding recordsReconciles, processes, and resolves complex problems generated by the library’s various systems Maintains and resolve correspondence in Library Cataloging email Assists with maintaining currency and reliability of links to electronic resources, including troubleshooting broken linksTrains and provides assistance to co-workers as needed and as directedPerforms related duties as requiredSupervisor: Head of Metadata Services
Works independently under general direction; makes independent judgments and decisions within scope of library policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications
