Senior Life Underwriter

If so, Guardian is seeking a Senior Life Underwriter to develop and implement decision making of individual life cases up to $5,000,000!

In this role you will use your expertise to determine the insurability as well as premium classification using tools available including, medical history, financial verification and various third-party vendor provided reports.

The Senior Life Underwriter is accountable for managing assigned work, developing agency relationships, and ensuring customer satisfaction at the highest level. The position requires the individual to operate in a cross-functional team environment.

You are

The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and confidently make underwriting decisions that provide the best offer within their assigned approval authority and protect mortality. They will also be able to transform conceptual thinking into competitive decisions that align with company philosophy and department guidelines.

You will

Recognize and obtain requirements necessary in evaluating risks, consistently using a comprehensive approach (a “broadened view” of the entire case to forecast all needs and requirements at onset)

Evaluate medical, financial, and non-medical information, as developed, to determine the risk classification according to company guidelines.

Collaborate with our reinsurers to negotiate and secure risk classification for business that may exceed our mortality standards, exceed our corporate retention, and/or for the benefit of securing a more competitive offer.

Communicate with field partners and home office personnel for the purpose of acquiring necessary information, solving problems, negotiating appeals, and conveying decisions in a polite, confident, and professional manner.

You have

3-5 years of experience in individual life underwriting

Bachelor’s degree

Industry related education (ALU, CLU, LOMA, etc.)

Knowledge of underwriting manuals, MIB (Medical Information Bureau) reporting, and various risk assessment vendor tools

The skills for risk assessment, collaboration, and customer service

The ability to think divergently.

Knowledge of individual life insurance products/processes

Analytical, Negotiation, Written and Oral communication skills.

Exceptional decision-making skills and organizational and time management skills

Salary Range:

$67,450.00 - $110,815.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
