Job Description

The Sr. Machinist manages the development and fabrication of prototype devices, test equipment, assembly tools and fixtures and the materials, tools & equipment used within the shop. 

Job Duties Design, fabricate and document tooling and equipment for production and engineering.  Inspection of tooling in-process, as needed, to ensure final tool compliance to drawing.    Support engineering regarding manufacturability.  Program, machine, and assemble prototype devices according to verbal and/or written specifications.  Lead evaluation and selection of machine shop equipment and software.  Work with outside vendors in obtaining price quotes, purchase of equipment and supplies, and developing designs and specifications for devices.  Purchase and maintain small tools, equipment, and machine shop supplies.  Maintain accurate records/documentation related to quality, working processes, test results, measurements, lab notebooks, timecard and special projects.  Proactively communicate delays in project completion to management.  Actively coordinate with others to maximize machine usage. Actively work to minimize scrap and waste. Adhere to general safety rules, manufacturing procedures, company policies and procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and FDA regulations.  Other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications

Required:

High School Diploma or Equivalent required. AA degree in technical field optimal. Minimum of 7 years related experience with prototyping and tooling required. 3+ years of experience in the medical device industry optimal  In depth knowledge of manual and CNC mills and lathes, and other common machine shop tools.  Proficient in the use of HAAS mill VM or VF series, 3+2 indexer and Haas lathe SL series with Y axis. CAM software. – In depth knowledge of Multi axis lathe and mill programming using CAM software or similar software up to 5-axis. (MasterCAM, Espirit, HyperMill) CAD software – Proficient in the use of SolidWorks 2017-2022, ability to modify solid models and create machining planes for CAM system. 

 

Preferred:

Experienced working with multiple types of materials i.e. plastics and metals, and their associated machining and processing requirements.  In depth knowledge of manual and CNC mills and lathes, and other common machine shop tools.  Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, written procedures and verbal instruction.  Skilled in shop math, including trigonometry, algebra.  Ability to operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment. Knowledge of inspection methods using appropriate measurement equipment for prototypes and tooling. Ability to produce precise small, tight tolerance parts.  Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, Word, Excel and Outlook. Strong verbal and written communication skills

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $31.41 - $42.41 / hour, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements). Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position, including level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
