The **Senior Machinist** performs all phases of machining, finishing and assembly in a job shop or high-volume applications. Processes components to meet print and or geometric tolerance requirements. Responsible for the setup, operation and maintenance of production machinery, maintenance of proper documentation and support of the manufacturing engineering function.
Primary responsibilities are to:
+ Under limited supervision, completes tasks as directed by SOPs, routers, prints, work instructions, and manufacturing schedules.
+ May perform programming.
+ May perform set up of manual and CNC machines including loading of tools, troubleshooting, programming adjustments and tear-down.
+ Operates machining equipment under close supervision and learns machining and metal removal concepts which include milling, turning, grinding, and other methods.
+ Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications using measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
+ Adheres to dimensions and tolerances found on prints. May use prints and sketches to determine proper methods and processes.
+ Learns process of maintaining machine maintenance files.
+ Reworks productions parts and performs emergency rework and/or modification of production parts as directed.
+ Performs in-process checks using measuring devices and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department lead person or supervisor.
+ Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
+ Works on projects as part of a team, exchanging ideas and contributing skills that complement those of the other team members. Fulfills commitments to team members.
+ Performs assembly, deburring, and other duties as required.
+ May perform setup of manual machines and perform tool offset changes on CNC machines.
+ Perform complex machine set-up.
+ Demonstrates a high degree of proficiency in the selection and care of special machine tools such as drills, jigs, mills, lathes, and fixtures.
+ Diagnoses machine problems using proper diagnostic tools.
+ May maintain machine maintenance files.
+ Maintains machine maintenance files.
+ Modifies basic existing processes if necessary.
+ Inspects prototypes, machines prototype fixtures and First Article components.
+ May perform programming and operation of FOBA lasers.
+ Ability to communicate verbally, written, and interpersonal skills required to work with others.
+ May perform welding.
+ High levels of ability to communicate verbally, written, and interpersonal skills required to work with others at all levels.
+ Note: Other duties may be assigned as necessary. **DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.
+ High School diploma or equivalent.
+ 5+ years of related experience with trade school certification preferred where applicable.
+ Considerable knowledge of the machinist role and complete acquaintance with an understanding of the machining of routine parts and ability to practically apply solutions to routine problems.
+ Understanding of FDA device manufacturing requirements.
+ Train others.
+ The employee may be required to periodically lift and/or move up to 80 lbs.
**TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED**
Position will use machining and metal removal equipment which may include milling, turning, grinding and other methods and measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers. Ability to utilize a desktop computer with typical business programs installed.
