Senior Maintenance Manager (Days)
Job Summary: This position will manage a team of maintenance managers who work together to lead the process maintenance activities within the Facilities and Engineering function and will report to the Associate Director, Engineering. The role has responsibility for leading the delivery of several maintenance programmes, whilst supporting the area with the execution of complex multi-shift activities and providing consistent cross-functional support and reporting to the various site stakeholder groups. Key Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide tactical and strategic leadership and direction to the maintenance team supporting the manufacturing processes, maintaining high levels of quality and safety in all operations. • To drive delivery and professional execution of the overall maintenance plan, utilising strong influencing and leadership skills as part of the cross functional plant leadership team. • Coordinate the response to any unplanned events, escalating and communicating effectively using standardised processes to minimise the impact to the plant operation. • Responsible for the delivery of a number of specific departmental programmes or initiatives. • Leads the team in evolving data analysis and meaningful metrics to achieve the area goals. • Support qualification, validation and regulatory inspection programmes with an ongoing focus on quality, aseptic compliance and process simplification and/or improvement. • Accountable for investigations into complex process deviations including robust CAPA execution/closure to avoid reoccurrence. • Maintains a high level of safety supervision and engagement across the team to improve the culture of safety collaboration onsite. • Coordinates the maintenance activities across the production suites by working with shift managers and planners to create a refined and consolidated plan for execution. • Deliver the overall maintenance and shutdown/overhaul strategy based on lean principles, incorporating modern maintenance and reliability methodologies in its design. • Identify capacity constraints, providing coaching support and guidance on prioritisation decisions to create an integrated and robust maintenance and manufacturing plan. • Actively collaborates in tactical and strategic decision-making processes to balance priorities and workload, ensuring resource allocation and utilisation is optimised across the plant. • Support the response to complex problems and equipment breakdown by supplementing the team in coordinating activities, enabling those executing the work to focus on resolution. • Lead productivity and improvement initiatives to systematically remove bottlenecks and flow interrupters, increasing line capacity or plant availability. • Assist in the development of annual technical, productivity and headcount budgets. • Strong coaching ability to drive standard work and implement best practice across the shift teams in all processes. • Support the planning and execution of complex plant shutdown/slowdown activities. Basic Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification and experience • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a GxP or other highly regulated manufacturing environment with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role • Strong leadership, effective communication and technical writing skills with an eye for detail • Self-motivated, organised individual with the ability to lead and influence in complex situations • Effective team player that can make balanced decisions as part of a cross functional group. Knowledge and Relevant Experience: • Deep knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotech unit operations and aseptic processing. • Fundamental knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (GxP & EHS). • Quality systems management (e.g. Non-Conformance, Change Control, CAPA). • Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance strategies and systems. • Strategic resource planning, capacity management, scheduling, and prioritisation. • Application of continuous improvement tools and methodologies. Skills: • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build, coach and direct teams across functional boundaries. • Team player who actively promotes a culture that relies on clear communication, collaboration and engagement at all relevant levels for effective decision-making. • Commands respect with the ability to assess and influence both tactical and strategic decisions in collaboration with broader stakeholder groups. • Time and resource management skills at both tactical and strategic levels. • Strong technical ability to understand and resolve complex problems as part of a focused and high performing team.
