The Sr. Manager, Hardware and Systems Engineering for Beckman Coulter is responsible for strategic leadership of new product development and sustainment of instrumentation platforms that are part of the Microbiology business. 

This position is part of the a team of multifunctional engineering disciplines located in West Sacramento, CA and will be onsite. At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.

You will be a part of the Microbiology R&D leadership team and report to the Director of Engineering responsible for collaborating closely with other members of the R&D and operations leadership team to drive operational excellence. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Be the strategic and operational leader of Hardware and Systems Engineering, providing deep technical and organizational leadership

Develop resource and budget plans and project roadmaps in conjunction with other business leaders to support product development initiatives

Ensure delivery of agreed NPI roadmaps within time, cost and quality standards, utilizing Danaher Business System (DBS) tools to drive effective sustainable processes and problem solving

Relentlessly focus on attracting and developing talent, building organizational capability and high-performing, diverse R&D engineering teams

Identify and lead incremental and transformational initiatives which will improve quality and effectiveness of R&D programs & operations

Act as a partner between Program Management, Product Management, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, commercial sales, Operations, and other R&D teams.

Partner closely with our operations and supply chain team to proactively implement product support strategies, including quality improvements plans and supply chain management

Essential Experience and Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Optics) with 14+ years of experience OR Master's / Doctoral degree in field with 12+ years AND related experience includes 4+ years directly managing people.

Significant experience in R&D/product development and post-launch design change in a regulated medical device field

Strong track record of product development under a quality management system, ideally with design controls and ISO 13485 medical device directives

Experienced in product development strategy & managing concurrent NPI project budgets of varying complexities

Experience of managing complex systems and hardware product development alongside assay/reagent and software development through the effective use of daily management/Agile project management techniques

Strong technical capability, including familiarity with various detection technologies used in the life science/medical device space, modern software/firmware design, and test method development.  Experience with injection molded consumables is a plus. 

Effective problem solver and data-driven decision maker; results and delivery oriented; ability to perform under timelines with clear communication and poise.

The salary range for this role is $175K-$225K. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
