JOB SUMMARY AND KEY PRIORITIES

The K-12 Initiatives Team aims to establish a robust network of K-12 schools to connect middle and high school youth, centering BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth, to programs, resources, and opportunities to take action for mental health.  The team works with schools and Youth Champions to foster youth-led initiatives that advocate for school-based mental health change.

The Senior Manager, K-12 Student Leadership, develops and implements strategies to strengthen and scale the nationwide impact of Active Minds’ K-12 network. The role supports Active Minds’ dynamic portfolio of School Mental Health Team-related deliverables and partnerships to maximize K-12 student engagement and mobilization. Key responsibilities include managing the Active Minds Mental Health Advocacy Academy, overseeing the Active Minds High School Advisory Board, and creating and implementing educational trainings and resources for K-12 students. The Senior Manager reports to the Director of K-12 Initiatives and supervises the Manager, K-8 Engagement and the Program Associate, K-12 Student Leadership.

KEY RESULTS Active Minds’ Mental Health Advocacy Academy Oversee, implement, and grow participation of the Academy, engaging BIPOC and LBGTQ+ high school students in local mental health advocacy annually. Collaborate with the Director of K-12 Initiatives and the Program Associate, K-12 Student Leadership, Manager of Policy, and other members of the Active Minds Programs team on the program design, content creation, recruitment, training, and final reporting. K-12 Student Leadership Program Development and Workshops Tailor and increase the participation of Active Minds’ student leadership programming in K-12 schools, with a special emphasis on centering BIPOC and LGBTQ youth. Engage youth in regular feedback sessions to ensure youth-led resources address their needs and align with organizational goals. Develop and deliver youth-focused leadership workshops, adding resources to the Your Voice is Your Power Resource Hub. Coordinate and facilitate meetings and presentations with key K-12 community leaders, both virtually and in person. Collaborate closely with the Senior Manager, Higher Education, Senior Manager, K-12 Expansion and Youth Champions, and Program Associate, Student Leadership to ensure timely development of all mental health advocacy resources. Respond to relevant data and trends in the field of youth mental health to inform program development and improvement. High School Advisory Board Management Recruit diverse high school students passionate about mental health advocacy to serve on the advisory board. Coordinate recruitment initiatives with the Senior Manager, Partnerships & Engagement and Program Associate, K-12 Student Leadership. Co-facilitate regular meetings, provide guidance and offer training to enhance advocacy skills with the Program Associate, K-12 Student Leadership. High School Curriculum Development Maintain the development and implementation of Active Mind’s peer-powered curriculum with K-12 schools without Active Minds Chapters. This involves tailoring the curriculum to fit the unique needs of diverse school environments and ensuring it remains relevant and engaging for students. In collaboration with the Manager, Chapter Mobilization & Engagement, conduct training sessions for adult and student leaders to enhance their leadership skills and prepare them to effectively use the curriculum as a mental health initiative within their schools. Work collaboratively with the Senior Manager, Partnerships & Engagement to provide onboarding support and resources to student leaders involved in Active Minds’ high school chapters. K-12 Outreach Communications Develop effective communications and collateral with the Marketing & Communication and Technology teams to ensure K-12 student leadership resources and programs are shared with the Active Minds network. Design targeted outreach strategies and materials to engage students, educators, and other stakeholders. Platform Management: Manage the Discord platform to connect with students, providing a space for them to share experiences, ask questions, and receive support related to curriculum implementation. Resource Sharing: Distribute resources, updates, and important information to the Active Minds’ K-12 network, fostering a cohesive and informed community. Equity Goals and Youth Support Collaborate with School Mental Health team leadership, the VP of Equity, and other key internal stakeholders, to deliver and execute the program equity goals. Ensure that the materials foster inclusive spaces for diverse youth identities. Training, Capacity Building, and Communications Coach, train, and support facilitators and youth in delivering the Peer-Powered Mental Health Curriculum. Offer technical assistance and office hours for program participants. Partner and Funder Relationship-Building: In partnership with the Director of K-12 Initiatives, VP School Mental Health, and Development team cultivate relationships with funders, partners, and key stakeholders to meet key deliverables. Budget Management: Manage assigned portions of the K-12 budget, including programmatic accounting. Reporting, Evaluation, & Measurement: Effectively track and report project progress and collaborate with Active Minds’ Measurement Team on outcome measurement. Salesforce Management: Maintain organized records and manage project details in Salesforce. Departmental/Organization-wide: Be a thought partner and leader across the School Mental Health team and with other Active Minds team leaders Ensure relevant strategic goals are met or exceeded on time Participate in cross-department committees and initiatives Represent Active Minds externally as needed at conferences, meetings, trainings, and other events, at the discretion of the Chief Program Officer Participate in organization-wide miscellaneous duties as needed Qualifications At least six years of demonstrated experience developing and maintaining K-12 school health programs with key K-12 stakeholders, including students, parents and caregivers, educators, school administrators, and community partners Experience in program management building and scaling programs Strong background working in K-12 schools with youth and adult stakeholders and developing mental health messaging, content, and programs Knowledge of or experience in school health and wellness work Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver effective presentations and trainings and write reports and business correspondence Education in public health, health promotion, school health, public administration A belief that equity and social justice are important and drive to hear, reflect, and act on this belief Advocate for social entrepreneurship and a believer in young people making an impact Our Culture

Compensation

This position offers an initial salary of $77,000 along with robust benefits. The starting pay for this position is equal to others at the same level throughout the organization. Candidates whose experience meets both the minimum and preferred qualifications may be considered for a starting salary that exceeds the current amount. The role sits within Active Minds Level 4 salary band, and as such, has the potential to grow to $108,000 over time. FLSA Status: Exempt.
