Purpose Statement

The Senior Manager, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field based medical expert that has direct management of the MSLs in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This role will balance both managerial and medical affairs responsibilities to ensure the strategic and tactical directions are achieved relevant to the therapeutic area (product/business unit) and geographies. Responsibilities include successful management of the MSL team, execution of MSL territory requirements, integration with local medical affairs and business teams and set strategy for medical education needs across APAC.  

 

Key Responsibilities

MSL management and leadership 

Manage the MSL team providing direction and support to local geographies (Singapore, Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan)

Ensure that the MSL team is aligned to the company strategic/tactical goals and that they are aligned with local geographies 

Create quarterly objectives that aligned with overall global medical strategy plan and develop qualitative and quantitative KPIs 

Evaluate MSL performance against quarterly objectives and Boston Scientific (BSC) values/culture

Oversee and develop MSL territory management plans working with local medical affairs and business teams 

Oversight and maintenance of MSL External Experts (EE)/KOL management, projects, and cross-functional responsibilities and to offer participation where appropriate 

Quarterly fieldwork with each respective MSL direct report (ride along observational/management visits with HCPs); delivering immediate feedback and documentation 

Manage monthly team and individual MSL qualitative and quantitative field reports, contract execution and oversight and other EE/KOL management duties as needed 

Responsible for developing additional individual goals specific to one’s MSL territory incorporating creative and innovative approaches to meet the educational, scientific and research needs unique to the region/territory 

Manage and ensure timely processing of MSL maintenance such as expense report submissions, time-off request, completion of required trainings, etc. 

Develop clinical trial support plans to enhance global clinical development initiatives 

Engage in individual MSL activities when necessary to support overall objectives and team needs

Medical Education Leadership 

Develop and execute an Interventional Oncology and Embolization (IO&E) medical education and evidence dissemination strategy for APAC region including work with local business units to develop geographic specific medical education plans  

Collaborate and align with cross-functional teams such as clinical development, R&D and marketing departments, to execute on strategic and tactical medical education plans 

Attend scientific congresses to maintain up-to-date information on BSC IO&E products and engage with regional EE/KOLs 

 

Key Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, terminal degree in clinically related area preferred (PharmD, PhD, MD/DO)  

Over 5 years experience functioning in an industry medical or clinical role supporting clinical trials

Track record for creating, managing and completing medical/scientific related projects

Clinical trial acumen; preferably having clinical trial experience and knowledge of GCP  

Physical ability to operate interventional instrumentation 

More than 5 years experience managing and leading a team

Outstanding interpersonal consultative skills 

Excellent presentation/platform skills 

Sincere desire for self-motivated continuous scientific, technical and medical learning 

Strong teaching acumen with focus on practical learning 

Ability to manage and prioritize workload, multi-task and manage a diverse mix of issues, responsibilities and challenges 

Ability to creatively address problems in an organized systematic way 

Willingness and ability to work within and outside of traditional business hours 

Collaborative style, responsive, considerate, flexible, assertive and personable 

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and web based customer and clinical support tools 

Ability to travel extensively within APAC and in particular within the assigned territories. Some international travel may be required

 

Preferred Qualifications

Oncology experience or demonstrated ability to master new therapeutic areas

Industry experience in a clinical, medical or scientific liaison role  

Field experience  

Medical devices experience
