The Senior Manager of Post Collection Operations plays a vital role in supporting Casella's operational footprint, reporting to the Director of Post Collection Operations. This position oversees the tactical management of the heavy equipment fleet and maintenance programs across landfills, transfer stations, MRFs, and organics operations. Responsibilities include ensuring efficient fleet management, operator training, compliance, and the strategic disposal of vehicles and heavy equipment, alongside fostering operational excellence through the development of durable practices, policies, and training programs.
Additionally, the Senior Manager supports landfill and transfer station operations to improve productivity, enhance operational efficiencies, and uphold environmental and regulatory compliance. By collaborating with departments such as Post Collections Operations, Engineering & Environmental Compliance, and Fleet, this role drives the alignment of operations with company goals, emphasizing performance optimization, safety, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities Assists and supports Regional Maintenance Managers in leading a team of mechanics and technicians to ensure efficient operations, high safety standards and compliance with industry regulations.Develops and manages budgets for maintenance activities, providing cost-effective operations.Coordinates asset maintenance and rebuild schedules and develops and supports long-term maintenance strategies to enhance heavy equipment availability, reliability, and lifespan.Creates and implements training programs for landfill, transfer station and heavy equipment management & maintenance to provide training & development opportunities for staff to keep skills current and drive continuous improvement.Manages relationships with heavy equipment suppliers and service providers to ensure prompt service and equipment delivery.Develops and implements operational strategies that align with Company objectives and enhances landfill and transfer station performance and durability.Oversees and supports daily operations at landfills and transfer stations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and company policies.Guides and supports the mentorship and development of a high-performing operations team, cultivating a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.Ensures adherence to local, state, and federal regulations related to landfill operations, including waste acceptance criteria and environmental monitoring.Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational effectiveness, heavy equipment maintenance/utilization, environmental compliance, and safety performance to identify areas for improvement.Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.Ensures compliance with all company, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws regarding employment and employee safety. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a science-related field, or business administration, along with at least 10 years of progressive experience in the waste or civil construction industry, preferably in landfill or transfer station operations, with expertise in managing large heavy equipment fleets and maintenance programs.
They should possess proven leadership and management skills, proficiency in management software and technologies, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, vendor management and negotiation expertise, knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the flexibility to travel within Casella's operating footprint up to 50% of the time.
